This is the Highest Thing

Srila Gurudeva: In Srimad-Bhagavatam it has been told,

purnah pulindya urugaya-padabja-raga

sri-kunkumena dayita-stana-manditena

tad-darsana-smara-rujas trna-rustiena

limpantya anana-kucesu jahus tad-adhim

[The aborigine women of the Vrndavana area become disturbed by lust when they see the grass marked with reddish kunkuma powder. Endowed with the color of Krsna’s lotus feet, this powder originally decorated the breasts of His beloveds, and when the aborigine women smear it on their faces and breasts, they feel fully satisfied and give up all their anxiety.]

This is the very highest thing. The Pulindi, a very low class of girls, the aboriginals in Govardhana Hill. They are not so much literate or have any high class of education or anything. Only they are picking some cow dung and anything from Govardhana Hill. But they saw something in the grass. What was that? There was some kunkuma. What is kunkuma? Kunkuma is any kind of color which the gopis take on their breasts and here and there. Anyhow it came on the grass. How did it come there? By the feet of Krsna. So, it was on the grass and the Pulinda kanya, the daughters of Pulindis, being even uncivilized, they took that kunkuma and rubbed it all over their whole body, everywhere, and they became so joyful. All kinds of evils went away and krsna-prema came. Srimati Radhika was watching this and thinking, “Oh, I want to be a daughter of Pulindi. I have no such prema, love and affection for Krsna that they have. I want to be a daughter of these uncivilized girls.” Sometimes Srimati Radhika sees in the forest that deers are running towards Krsna, thinking that the female deers are having much more affection for Krsna than She does. They hear the sound of the vamsi and they begin running towards Krsna with so much affection and love. They run there as if they will take Krsna in their heart.

Also their husbands, having some black lines on their body, their husbands tell their wives, “Oh, you can see Krsna as you like.” They don’t give any obstacle to them. But the gopis are thinking, “How fortunate these deer are that their husbands are even helping them to see Krsna and to have love and affection for Him? Our husbands, if they will see and hear that we are going to Krsna, then they will break our legs. They will kick us out of village and tell us, “Don’t come back, don’t enter here. I don’t want you.” So, “I want to be a deer If I will die, I want to be born as a deer.” So, this is the symptom of pure love, the highest love. Even Srimati Radhika speaks like this. Krsna-prema is so marvelous. If there is no prema, no love and affection, then even if Krsna comes, then we will be like Kamsa. If anyone has no love and affection for Him, then He will come and we will want to kill Krsna. All the demons were like this. They met Krsna, the same beautiful, very marvelous Krsna, Aghasura, Bakasura, they heard the very sweet tune of the vamsi and saw very wonderful Krsna, but yet they wanted to kill Krsna. Why? Because there was no krsna-prema.
