  • Glories of Srila Narottama dasa Thakura

Who can fathom the activities of Vaiṣṇavas? Nonsense people have no common sense. How can they understand? Therefore, never insult or dishonor Śrī Guru and Vaiṣṇavas: kaha na re karo ninda krsna krsna boli, ajaya caitanya se jinibe khele. Don’t fill your heart with garbage. Don’t think, “I am a Vaiṣṇava, now I am capable and worthy of insulting all others. All are bad, only I am good. I am the authority. All others’ opinions are wrong.”
This is the philosophy of rascals! This is not Vaiṣṇava philosophy. Vaiṣṇavas collect only goodness. Honeybees only collect nectar from flowers and turn it into honey. They may even collect nectar from a poisonous flower and turn that into honey, but honeybees will only collect nectar, never poison, and it will be helpful for all.
The dharma of Vaiṣṇavas is never to insult others. Vaiṣṇavas give proper respect to all. Even if one has no good qualities, if he is very bad and sinful, why should I collect the bad qualities from him and bring them into my heart?
At the time of leaving his physical body and entering nitya-līlā, Śrīla Narottama dāsa Ṭhākura went to the Ganga surrounded by his disciples and sat in the water. He asked his dear and near disciples to massage his body and as they did so, he melted away into the river, leaving behind a pool of milk.
We have come in this gauḍīya paramparā. If we pray with the bhajanas of Narottama dāsa Ṭhākura, Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura and the other ācāryas, we will be close to them. They have written these songs for us to show us the pathway to achieve prema-bhakti. The ācāryas are present with us in their prayers.
    Narottama dāsa Ṭhākura prayed:
kabe kṛṣṇa-dhana pābo, hiyāra mājhāre thabo,
    juḍāibo tāpita-parāṇ
    sājāiyā dibo hiyā, vāsaibo prāṇa-priyā,
    nirakhibo se candra-bayān
“When will I gaze on the moonlike face of Śrī Kṛṣṇa, the treasure more dear to me than mylife? When will I decorate Him and seat Him in my heart, relieving my sinful life?”
Our ācāryas have reserved this transcendental wealth for us. This is our spiritual food and shelter. If we leave that aside and go to collect mundane film songs and so forth, we are the disciples of film stars and singers. But if we sing, remember and pray with the songs of our guru-varga, we will be in their line, as their followers.
Therefore, out of their great kindness, the guru-varga have saved this property of heartfelt love for us. If we neglect these bhajanas, feeling we have no time to remember or sing them, how can we progress and approach our guru-varga? We will only collect māyā. Then we will suffer, and feel great tension and depression.
This is our identity. This is the result of our exam. Where am I? Why am I disturbed? What is the problem? I do not sing these bhajanas. I do not go near the guru-varga. I never pray. Now I am the founder. I do not need to sing kīrtana. I don’t need to chant harināma. I don’t need darśana of Guru and Vaiṣṇavas, because I am now the founder. But what is the founder? What have I found? Am I the founder of māyā? Am I the founder of a sewage plant? This is all useless! Therefore—
    choḍata dhana-jana kalatra-suta-mita choḍata karama-geyāna
    rādhā-pada paṅkaja madhurata-sevana bhakativinoda paramāṇa
Give up everything and come to the guru-varga! Then your life will be successful. Otherwise, everything is useless, useless, useless, bogus, bogus, bogus. Many people run, I will also run.
Śrīla Gurudeva collected the songs of Narottama dāsa Ṭhākura. He sang these and taught them to his followers.

  • Disappearance day of Acarya Kesari

I met Srila Gurudeva for the first time at Devananda Gaudiya Math on this occasion in 1968. Many people were invited to attend the separation day. I met our Guru-varga at this viraha tithi for the first time. People from many different Gaudiya Maths were invited. I came there in 1968; I was twelve or thirteen. I saw how much love these sadhus had for their Gurudeva. They had renounced everything, but they did not renounce their Gurudeva and the Vaisnavas. In that viraha sabha, many acaryas were present like Pujyapada Bhakti Dayita Madhava Maharaja, Pujyapada Bhakti Raksaka Sridhara Maharaja, Pujyapada Bhakti Bhudeva Srauti Maharaja, Pujyapada Hrisikesa Maharaja, Pujyapada Janardhana Maharaja, and many other disciples of Prabhupada Sarasvati Thakura. They had heartfelt love and respect for their god-brother. Everyone had heartfelt love and deep respect for Param Gurudeva during the time of Prabhupada Sarasvati Thakura; their love for Param Gurudeva was undisturbed even after Prabhupada’s disappearance. We cannot define or understand such love. This is called a relationship. Their hearts are not hard like rocks. What do they do for their Guru-varga? Each acarya would offer puspanjali to Param Gurudeva and bitterly weep in separation. Some were elder and senior, but all of their hearts melted in separation from Param Gurudeva, and when they offered puspanjali, they showered everyone with the nectar of their separation-filled harikatha. They wept incessantly as they spoke. Thousands of disciples were there. The temple did not have any towers. There was only the ground floor, and the temple hall was small. There were not so many rooms. Everyone sat outside, like during Navadvipa Parikrama, or Vraja Mandala Parikrama. Everyone was there for the start of Kartika vrata.
We heard how Param Gurudeva was so close to Nayana-manjari, who had appeared as Varsabhanavi-devi dayita dasa in this world. He was very close to her in the spiritual world in his form as Vinoda-manjari. His service to his guru manifested in this world also. Through his immaculate service, he distributed the glories of Prabhupada, Nayana Mani-manjari to the conditioned souls.
Prabhupada gave him the name, “Vinoda Bihari.” He had a brother named Pramoda Bihari who later became Bhakti Kevala Audulomi Maharaja. Prabhupada said, “Unless someone meets with Vinoda, one cannot understand bhakti, bhajana, and Bhagavan. They will never realize eternal happiness. Whoever remembers Vinoda, and makes a relation with him can understand me. And they will never have any problem in life.”
Prabhupada would look to see who respected Vinoda. Ordinary people complained against Param Gurudeva to Prabhupada. They said, “He wears a Santipura dhoti and turban, and rides on a big horse, and he spends so much money. He does not wear tilaka, and he never has his mala or does bhajana. He leaves in the morning and returns at night. He does not follow any rules and regulations of bhakti.”
Prabhupada replied, “A person who follows all good etiquette but has no love only performs karma. This is external.”
People come to perform their duty, but they have no love. After they finish their duty, they return to their loved ones. Another person does not follow the rules and regulation externally, but he has love in his heart, and he has a heart to heart relation and connection with his spiritual master; this love is spotless and unbreakable.
Relationships are comprised of love. For instance, a servant in a palace works from morning to evening, while the prince does not do anything. If the servant has a little fault, he gets suspended or punished. The king’s son may break all regulations, and may destroy many things in the palace, but the king has love for his son, and does not punish him; he overlooks his faults.

  • The Appearance of Srila Bhakti Promoda Puri Gosvami Maharaja

Today is the appearance day of Nitya Lila Pravista Om Visnupada Astottara Sata Sri Srimad Bhakti Pramoda Puri Gosvami Maharaja. Both, the appearance day and the disappearance day of the Vaisnavas are helpful. If we remember the Vaisnava on his appearance day and pray to him, then holding our hands, he will teach us everything. After his disappearance, he is present in the eternal world. If we pray to him, remember him, and worship him, then he will shower his mercy and blessings from the eternal world. These blessings are more powerful and tasteful. Thus, the appearance and disappearance day of the Vaisnava is very good.
On his appearance day, the Vaisnava came to this world. Vaisnavas don’t have their own choice or desires. God Himself or His Svarupa-sakti send the Vaisnava to this world. Mahaprabhu or His followers also send the Vaisnava to this world to help and change the jivas. As all of you previously heard, Srila Puri Gosvami Maharaja appeared in a Brahmin family. During Srila Prabhupada Sarasvati Thakura’s time, the daily Nadia Prakash was published. It carried the news of Vaikuntha—Vaikunthiya-varta. This Dainika Nadia Prakash was printed and distributed everyday. Fortnightly or monthly periodicals were also published. They were not only published in Hindi and Bengali. They were published in Odiya, Tamil, English, and many other languages. Srila Prabhupada had this transcendental literature distributed everywhere in the world. If anyone accepted this message, they would go near Prabhupada and meet him. Thus, they would directly receive their own permanent soul’s service and position.

  • Anukula Anusilanam – Srila Rupa Gosvami Tirobhava

Who was teaching this ragamarga-mayi-seva, this seva that is described in Ujvalla Nilamani, Bhakti Rasamrta Sindhu and all the other books he wrote? It is not possible that this writing could be manifested by Vyasadeva or any other acaryas. They could not directly glorify these types of relationships. Whenever we touch and glorify these granthas, Rupa Gosvami is present there. Now there is no taste, no anusilanam. It is all anyabhilasa, therefore no one can touch these books (only one who has continuous taste can touch them). You can read them, but without anukula-anusilanam taste, you will not understand. But by praying to Rupa Gosvami Prabhu and being in anugatya, then everything will appear in your heart. All cooling and soothing feelings will come in your heart…

  • The Disappearance Day of Srila Bhakti-Raksaka Sridhara Gosvami Maharaja

[Lecture by Srila Gurudeva, Sri Srimad Bhaktivedanta Narayana Gosvami Maharaja] I met Prapujyacarana Srila Sridhara Maharaja in 1946, at which time he did not have any disciples. He was with my Gurudeva, Srila Bhakti Prajnana Kesava Gosvami Maharaja, from 1942. He left the Sri Caitanya Gaudiya Matha and came with Guru Maharaja when Guru Maharaja…

  • Glories of Srila Gopala Bhatta Gosvami and the Appearance of Sri Radha Ramana

We see in rasa-lila in Vrndavana that the gopis are all weeping, rolling on the earth, always searching for Krsna, “O Krsna, Krsna, where are You? Without You we will die.” On the other hand, Prabhodananda Sarasvati has written in “Radha-rasa-sudhanidhi,” “Why should the gopis cry and weep for Krsna? Krsna should weep, rolling down on the earth and lamenting, ‘O Srimati Radhika, where are You? I’m dying without You.’ Krsna should search here and there, in all groves and mountains. He should desire to meet with Radhika and take Her foot-dust.” This is the highest topic given by our Gosvamis in their books, especially in Caitanya-caritamrta.
