Prabhuji commentary: “I desire to see your Mohini form, O Lord. Please give me darsana of that Mohini who bewildered the demigods and demons with her unparalleled beauty.”
Visnu smiled and laughed. He then said in a grave voice, “My Mohini-svarupa? This is not good for you. This svarupa-darsana is enough for the demons. This is very dangerous. There is no need to look at this svarupa. You will also become bewildered. Don’t look at this svarupa.”
But Siva could not resist. He was very eager to see Mohini.
“I appeared as Mohini to bewilder the demons. I took the form of a woman to enamor and delude the demons. The sattvika demigods were not bewildered. But the demons have a tamasika-mood, and I manifested this svarupa to enamor and bewilder them. That svarupa is very attractive for lusty people. Those who are very lusty will not be able to tolerate seeing Mohini. From every point of their body, they will become agitated. They will feel like they are burning in the agony of lust. You want to see that svarupa? This svarupa is good for the lusty people. They feel happy seeing Mohini, but for those who are equipoised, they also will become agitated. So it is better they do not see her.”
“Please Lord, I am very eager to see Your Mohini form.”
“If you insist I will show you, but do not blame Me if anything untoward occurs as a result.”
At that point, Visnu disappeared. Uma and Siva looked in all directions in surprise.
Srila Svami Prabhupada's Bhagavatam Translation:
PURPORT
Once one is agitated by lusty desires upon seeing a woman, those desires increase more and more, but when semen is discharged in the act of sex, the lusty desires diminish. The same principle acted upon Lord Çiva. He was allured by the beautiful woman Mohiné-mürti, but when his semen had been fully discharged, he came to his senses and realized how he had been victimized as soon as he saw the woman in the forest. If one is trained to protect his semen by observing celibacy, naturally he is not attracted by the beauty of a woman. If one can remain a brahmacäré, he saves himself so much trouble in material existence. Material existence means enjoying the pleasure of sexual intercourse (yan maithunädi-gåhamedhi-sukham [SB 7.9.45]). If one is educated about sex life and is trained to protect his semen, he is saved from the danger of material existence.
