6.16 Srimad-Bhagavatam - 25 March 2017 By the mercy of his spiritual master Narada Rsi, Citraketu Maharaja received darsana of Lord Anantadeva. mṛṇāla-gauraṁ śiti-vāsasaṁ sphurat- kirīṭa-keyūra-kaṭitra-kaṅkaṇam prasanna-vaktrāruṇa-locanaṁ vṛtaṁ dadarśa siddheśvara-maṇḍalaiḥ prabhum tad-darśana-dhvasta-samasta-kilbiṣaḥ svasthāmalāntaḥkaraṇo 'bhyayān muniḥ pravṛddha-bhaktyā praṇayāśru-locanaḥ prahṛṣṭa-romānamad ādi-puruṣam sa uttamaśloka-padābja-viṣṭaraṁ premāśru-leśair upamehayan muhuḥ premoparuddhākhila-varṇa-nirgamo naivāśakat taṁ prasamīḍituṁ ciram Srimad-Bhagavatam 6.16.30-32 Citraketu saw that Lord whose complexion is fair as the white fibers of a lotus, who is adorned with blue garments, a glittering helmet and belt, as well as shining armlets and bangles, and whose beautiful smiling face is graced with reddish eyes. Lord Sankarsana appeared surrounded by exalted liberated persons such as Sanat-kumāra. As soon as Mahārāja Citraketu beheld His Lord, he was purified of all material contamination and established in his original God-consciousness. He became calm in that satisfaction. He offered his obeisance to the Adi-purusa with great devotion as his hairs stood on end and tears of love fell from His eyes. Citraketu repeatedly bathed the feet of his most wonderful Lord with loves-filled tears. For a considerable time, he was unable to utter any of the letters of the alphabet to offer the Lord in suitable prayer, for his voice was choked in ecstasy. Citraketu Maharaja said: “Prabhu, you possess the sweet quality of being controlled by the love of your bhaktas, but you are otherwise Ajita—the Unconquerable. Only sadhus can control you with their bhakti. The happenings of this vast creation of Your’s goes on only by your will. You are present everywhere within this world, but in a form so subtle that common men cannot see you. You are doing everything but people blinded by false pride think themselves to be the doer. Earth, water, fire, air, ether—You are the source of these elements, thus nothing goes on without Your will. Jivas, having been granted a human birth, become no better than demons by trying to independently enjoy the people and things of this world, which is coming from You and is Your property alone. They do sadhana and bhajana for the aim of sense-gratification, but the senses cannot be made happy, so long as they do not worship You, the Transcendental Supreme Lord, they cannot be happy. Only by collecting nirguna things can the jivas really be happy. “If one rejects bhagavad-dharma and follows only jada-dharma he will gradually degrade himself to the lowest position imaginable in this creation. For the sake of bodily maintenance, people take up many practices and dharmas, but not bhagavad-dharma. They think, ‘He is my friend. He is my enemy,’ and they are always fearful. “Those who follow bhagavad-dharma are fearless and always happy in their service to you. Fear, anger, envy, and so on only comes to a person who is engrossed in tama guna and raja guna. If bhagavad dharma is followed then tattva-jnana, which grants fearlessness, can be obtained. “O Lord if one just hears Your holy name, even the lowest of men is liberated from sinful reaction and the terrors of samsara. Your name is nirguna, beyond the modes of material nature. “Now that I am gazing at Your beautiful face, I am purified of every last drop of material attachment. My spiritual master is indeed most merciful. By his grace I have been brought to You. “The creation, maintenance, and destruction of this world are only understood by those of pure knowledge. Others are simply victims of illusion. O Lord, please keep me near You always. “The demigods headed by Brahmaji and other great souls offer their prayers to You who carry the entire brahmanda atop Your head and feel that it is light and small as a mustard seed. I surrender unto You, being now freed from bondage to family attachment and impure intelligence. Bhagavan Anantadeva responded: “Narada and Angira gave you yoga-vidya and, by this, you crossed maya and came to Me. Thus, your life has been perfected. This world is the enjoyed and I alone am the enjoyer. I am present everywhere. I am Parabrahma and Sabdabrahma. Only by para-vidya, which is bestowed by the words of sad-guru, can one reach Me.” Everything in this world is meant to be offered to God. By this sacrifice great spiritual power is attained. If those offerings are made directly by the living entities, however, then those jivas will suffer continuously in this world. Just as a man sees many things in his dream but then wakes to find that nothing has happened at all, similarly, wife, family, friends—they come like a dream and then leave. There is no real substance to them. This is called illusion. If the jiva can remember at all times that he is the eternal servant of the Lord, then he will never have any problems in his life. A man surrendered to Bhagavan and the bhaktas will see His Lord even in his dreams at the time of taking rest, but those who follow the mind and senses will be shown various fearsome presentations of maya and thus live in frustration and fear. Therefore, even before you sleep, remember Bhagavan and when you wake do the same. Then you will never lose your intelligence and your harinama and seva will run on nicely. Bhagavan is always very near us, but unfortunate people run away from Him and go here and there like mindless dogs. Intelligent persons do not accept initiation into service to the mind, they accept diksa and instruction on pure service from a bona fide spiritual master to whom they surrender their very life. When one is saranagata he can be the receptacle of pure knowledge. Conditioned souls endeavor very hard to relieve themselves of sadness by many courses of action, or karma, but they remain unsatisfied. By karma no one can attain Bhagavan. Therefore, become renounced and always think of God and do everything in relation to Him, then you will reach Him and become fully satisfied. Surrender to Sri Guru and thus receive para-vidya. This will enable you to attain the lotus feet Bhagavan and, in that, complete satisfaction. śrī-śuka uvāca āśvāsya bhagavān itthaṁ citraketuṁ jagad-guruḥ paśyatas tasya viśvātmā tataś cāntardadhe hariḥ Srimad-Bhagavatam 6.16.65 Śukadeva Gosvāmī said: That most powerful Lord, who is the Guru of the universe, thus encouraged Maharaja Citraketu.
