[Spoken by Srila Gurudeva on January 17th, 1998, Australia, published as part of the Bhakta Bandhav Anthology, Volume 23]
Srila Gurudeva: Caitanya Mahaprabhu is weeping bitterly and saying, “Oh, I should die at once. Why am I living? I have no prema, no love and affection for Krsna. I know a fish has so much love and affection for water. If anyone will take that fish out of water, what will it do? He will become restless and die at once. There is no remedy at all. The only remedy is that you should put that fish back in water at once. I have no prema and devotion for Krsna and still I am alive? A fish cannot live without water and I am still alive without Krsna. But all are telling Me that, ‘Oh, You have such a high class of prema.’ But I have not a single smell of krsna-prema, so I should die.” Do you have this kind of mood? So Mahaprabhu is praying to krsna-nama, “Oh Nama Prabhu, You are Himself Krsna and Radhika. When will that day come when I will chant ‘Krsna’ and My heart will be melted?” If anyone has a mood like this, then no wall will be there between other Vaisnavas. There will be no envy, jealousy, hatred, duplicity, hypocrisy, political thing, or anything. Never will these things come. They will go very far away. Sri-namni. Always think that when you are chanting krsna-nama, Krsna is there. It is only the defect in you that you are not seeing and realizing this. Krsna is always there. Not only in the hearts of all, but in all the atoms of the whole world and in all the atoms of the air. Krsna is everywhere. There is no place that Krsna is absent.
Once, there were so many students of a Guru. The Guru took any very good, delicious sweet in his hand and he gave it to all his students, giving each student one sweet. He told them, “You should take this and where no one is there, you should eat it. You should go and after eating, you should return to me. But see, make sure that anyone should not see you eat it. In a very solitary place where no one is there, you should take it.” All the students went to any solitary place. All ate their sweets and came back to Gurudeva after washing their hands. He asked them, “Have you eaten this sweet?”
“Yes Gurudeva.”
“Did anyone see you?”
“Never, never, never. Anyone could not see me.” But one student returned with that sweet. He had not eaten it. Gurudeva asked him, “Why could you not eat your sweet?”
“Because I could not find any solitary place.”
“Why? You should go in that room. There is no one there and you can eat it.”
“O Gurudeva, I see Krsna everywhere [devotees laugh]. Everywhere.” So, you should be like that and then chant Krsna’s name and you will see that your heart will be melted.
