Trilokanātha dāsa: Śrīla Gurudeva, I have a question about my name. Śrīla Prabhupāda gave me the name Trilokanātha. I have heard that this means ‘Lord of the three worlds,’ which is not a very rasika understanding. Do you have a more rasika understanding of this name?
Śrīla Nārāyaṇa Gosvāmī Mahārāja: With reference to your name, it is different from the Trilokanātha who is Indra. Indra is the king of the three worlds, bhūr, bhuvaḥ, and svaḥ, but your name does not refer to Indra.
In this connection, the three worlds are the material world (jaḍa-jagat), the realm of the living entities (jīva-jagat), and the transcendental world (cit-jagat), Goloka Vṛndāvana. Therefore, Trilokanātha is one of the names of Śrī Kṛṣṇa Himself.
When Indra’s false ego was shattered, he performed Kṛṣṇa’s bathing ceremony (abhiṣeka). At that time Surabhī cow prayed to Kṛṣṇa, “Indra may be Trilokanātha, but You are the soul of the complete universe, and from You only all this cosmic world has manifested.
Therefore, although Indra tried his best to kill my descendant cows in Vṛndāvana, they remained under Your shelter and You have protected them all so well. We do not know anyone else as the Supreme, nor do we go to any other god or demigod for protection. You are our Indra, You are the Supreme Father of the entire cosmic creation, and You are the protector and elevator of all the cows, brāhmaṇas, demigods, and all the pure devotees of Your Lordship.”
Jagadīśa dāsa: When you first gave me harināma initiation, I started reading Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta. But then I was told by others to read Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam. They said that Caitanya-caritāmṛta is too high for me. Does it matter which book I read?
Śrīla Nārāyaṇa Gosvāmī Mahārāja: You can read Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, and by reading it, you will be able to understand Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam. Caitanya-caritāmṛta will help you greatly in understanding Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam. All other scriptures are included and clarified there, and the explanations of all the verses of Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam are present there.
Jagadīśa dāsa: Thank you.
Trilokanātha dāsa: Śrīla Gurudeva, I am being encouraged by some of your senior disciples to do some public speaking, but I feel unprepared. I am wondering when I will know that I am ready.
Śrīla Nārāyaṇa Gosvāmī Mahārāja: If you start speaking, a flow of thoughts will automatically come to you. In order to speak, you will study, and gradually you will develop.
Trilokanātha dāsa: May I have your blessings to do this?
Śrīla Nārāyaṇa Gosvāmī Mahārāja: Yes, my blessings are upon you. When I joined the maṭha, I knew nothing about all these topics. Gradually, by the mercy of Gurudeva, by hearing from him and by reading and writing and memorizing ślokas, I became knowledgeable.
