By the causeless mercy of Śrīla Guru-pāda-padma and the rūpānuga Vaiṣṇava ācāryas we are present in Vṛndāvana-dhāma. Śrīla Guru-pāda-padma arranges this program so that we can attain the shelter of Vṛndā-devī and Bhagavatī Paurṇamāsī. Guru-pāda-padma is very kind for us. If anyone comes close to him, he will send him to Vṛndāvana, into the shelter of Vṛndā-devī. She then helps and teaches the sādhakas, making them qualified and bestowing eternal service upon them, arranging everything for them to attain spiritual perfection of svarūpa-siddhi, realizing one’s eternal spiritual form.
By the prayers of the mahā-bhāgavata rūpānuga guru-varga, Vṛndā-devī helps the sādhakas in this line. She distributes līlā-rasa, bhakti-rasa, vraja-rasa and arranges everything for one to attain prema-bhakti. If anyone follows this program they are very lucky. And if they don’t follow, if they collect many other things, what they think or understand is not my question or answer. Our question and answer now is how can we be present near līlā-śakti? If one is present near līlā-śakti, She will carefully help him progress in spiritual life. She will give treatment, medicine, food, diet, lodge and favorable association. We are very lucky. Our Guru-pāda-padma is glorified throughout the three worlds. He always thinks about us and our eternal spiritual welfare. If a disciple does not remember the causeless mercy of his Guru-pāda-padma he is ungrateful and selfish. Such a person is useless and contemptible. According to one’s own desire and idea he cannot meet with the Vaiṣṇavas and understand the holy dhāma. People like this will only come as tourists for recreation—they will come and go without attaining any benefit. They do not touch the dhāma; the glories and mercy of the dhāma do not manifest in their hearts. Even if they try again and again without following the correct process, they will become hopeless and sick and run away from the holy dhāma. It will be impossible for them to stay in the dhāma and to make relationship with the dhamavāsīs.
Therefore always remember the kindness of Guru-pāda-padma. If you don’t remember his causeless mercy, due to your selfish nature you will lose everything. Always be grateful to Guru-pāda-padma. This is not our duty, rather it creates a place in our heart to accept his mercy, and then his mercy will increase in our hearts incessantly.
Now, Guru-pāda-padma has sent this book to us. He has arranged for us to hear this Govinda-līlāmṛta so that we can gradually enter into aṣṭa-kālīya-līlā. If you come near līlā-śakti, She will catch and pull you into Her lap and remove all your anarthas and bad desires, like a kind mother cleaning her child. She will give a chance for entering Rādhā-Kṛṣṇa’s service.
Śrīmatī Rādhārānī comes daily from Yāvaṭa to Nandagrāma. Yaśodā Mātā arranges for Her nice new dresses and everything to cook for Kṛṣṇa.
Kṛṣṇa is on his bed in the early morning. All the residents of Vraja think about Kṛṣṇa. Without his darśana they suffer, as if they have lost something very valuable to them.
The sakhīs come and see that Yaśodā Mātā is guarding Kṛṣṇa’s room and not allowing anyone to enter and disturb His sleep. She worries about Him with motherly love. Like a parent thinks, “My son has left the house and has not returned. It is getting late. Could anything have gone wrong? Maybe he got in an accident . . .” A loving mother will always fear the worst for her child because of her love.
But śānta-rasa or sakhya-rasa bhaktas have no doubt like this. Sakhās say, “Kṛṣṇa is my best friend, nothing bad could ever happen to Him.”
Those in śānta-rasa think, “Paramātmā, the Supreme Soul, can have no difficulty.”
Those in vātsalya-rasa have over world power love. Therefore they think Kṛṣṇa is a small boy, Gopāla, who knows not how to care for Himself. Yaśodā thinks, “When Kṛṣṇa goes into the forest He may get hurt.”
She doesn’t give chance for any gopīs or sakhās to enter His room. She says, “Don’t shout! Be silent.” Yaśodā Mātā weeps gently, worried about the welfare of her son.
All the animals and Vrajavāsīs are waiting outside for Kṛṣṇa’s darśana.
Śrīmatī Rādhārānī is on Her way to Nandagrāma from Yāvaṭa with all Her friends. Jaṭilā and Kutila are very greedy to get gifts from Yaśodā Mātā, therefore they quickly send Rādhārānī to Nandagrāma, saying, “Don’t worry, You can take breakfast there.”
Yaśodā Mātā also sends big boxes full of jewels to Abhimanyu. Therefore Jaṭilā is greedy. This is good. Then they do not obstruct Rādhārānī’s service.
Śrīmatī is coming from Yāvaṭa. All the mañjarīs have decorated the way with flowers and have sprinkled rose water on the path before Rādhārānī departed. Some fan Her as She walks, while others hold umbrellas over Śrīmatī Rādhārānī. Behind, the sakhīs sing beautiful songs of Kṛṣṇa’s pastimes.
In the early morning, if anyone remembers these pastimes while chanting harināma, watching as Śrīmatī Rādhārānī comes from Yāvaṭa and Kṛṣṇa wakes in Nanda-bhavāna, very quickly they will achieve perfection. This is your sādhana.
Try once. If you do not succeed, then try again. And if you still do not succeed, try again and again without giving up. Only offer praṇāma. At first this is enough, “Oh, I am offering praṇāma to Nandagrāma.” “I offer praṇāma to Yāvaṭa.” “I offer praṇāma to the Vraja-devīs and the sakhās.” This is your admission fee. Only offer praṇāma. This is enough. By daily offering praṇāma, they will call and invite you, “Come.” Then you will see, “Oh! Just see how the peacocks are serving!” “How are all the animals in Vraja serving Rādhā-Kṛṣṇa?” “Oh! How do the mañjarīs serve Rādhārānī?” “How many things they are carrying for Kṛṣṇa’s sake?”
Greed is the only cost to attain this anurāga. Nothing else is required to enter aṣṭa-kālīya-līlā, and nothing else has the ability to send you there. Your charity, austerity, or anything else will not work. If you go to the holy dhāma, you may achieve some sukṛti and pious merits, but by this, some result and fruit will come and you will take that and run away from the holy dhāma.
Greed creates relation. Like a baby is near his mother. The mother takes her baby in her lap, speaks baby-talk with her baby, and plays with her. By this, their relation is intensified. To enter eternal Vraja-maṇḍala, the first stage is to offer praṇāma to that līlā-bhūmi, the pastime places of Vraja. After offering praṇāma, pray deeply to all the Vrajavāsīs.
Therefore Śrīla Gurudeva teaches us to pray—
śrī-paurṇamāsīṁ śirasā namāmi
“I bow my head and offer praṇāma unto Śrī Paurṇamāsī-devī, who is completely adept at arranging the most elevated varieties of enjoyment for the master of Śrīmatī Rādhikā; whose lotus feet are worshiped by the Vrajavāsīs; and who, due to possessing the entirety of transcendental qualities starting with kindness, is worshipable to everyone in the entire universe.”
“He Yogamāyā, I offer you praṇāma. Please give me some energy so that I may go and offer praṇāma in līlā-bhūmi, everywhere in Vraja-maṇḍala. May my mind not go to other places, for movies and to the sea beach. I will daily go to Vraja-maṇḍala and pray at all Rādhā-Kṛṣṇa’s pastime places. There I will wait and chant, and perform parikramā, and sweep the pathways.”
First try to start your service. Start your business. If you don’t start in this life, then you will run and run and run for millions of live in māyā with no positive result. Therefore Caitanya Mahāprabhu’s movement gives caitanya, pure soul consciousness. Everyone in this world is unconscious of their soul. You are senseless and therefore you are useless. When cetanā, soul consciousness, then you will think about Vṛndāvana. You will think about Vraja-maṇḍala, Vraja Bhūmi. Otherwise you are like a stone, hill or dead tree trunk. Like this your life will pass away without any gain. Nothing will happen. There will be no positive result. Why do you waste your time simply eating and sleeping? Why do you move and walk around attached to this world? Why do you chant if you want no relation with Vraja? If you don’t progress and meet with the Vrajavāsīs, then is this philosophy bogus? No! You are bogus. Without consciousness, no one can proceed forward step by step. They will lose everything.
Therefore the guru-varga made a prohibited area. What will occur there? In that prohibited center of Śrīla Guru-pāda-padma there will only be hari-saṅkīrtana, hari-prasāda and hari-kathā. This is called a temple, āśrama or maṭha. This area is not for any other business. Here the spiritual tutors teach us how to make relation with the Vrajavāsīs and Vraja-devīs.
After niśānta-līlā, after maṅgala-āratī, you will go along with Śrīmatī to Nanda-bhavāna.
In Vilāpa-kusumāñjali, Dāsa Gosvāmī prayed like this, “How may I accompany Śrīmatī to Nanda-bhavāna, where I will assist Her in cooking for Kṛṣṇa.”
Śrīla Rūpa Gosvāmī Prabhu wrote of aṣṭa-kālīya-līlā sādhana in his books, Śrīla Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura wrote of this in Kṛṣṇa-bhavanamrta and the other gosvāmīs books give us this same process. Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura wrote of this all in Bhajana-rahasya, collecting the essence of the gosvāmīs’ teachings.
This is not bogus or imagination! Don’t think you have no qualification. How will you attain qualification? If you don’t go to school and college, and don’t learn anything, how can you ever become qualified! Who will give you a certificate? It is necessary to go to school. Which school? A pāramārthika school, that school where you will be taught how to achieve the supreme goal of life. If you wait for admission, thinking it will manifest of its own accord without any endeavor from your side, it will not come for millions and millions of lives. You must go and apply for admission from the school.
The guru-varga have come and picked us up from māyā without us even knowing their mercy or desiring their grace. But now that we have come in this line, follow the process of our gauḍīya guru-paramparā. Respect the guru-varga and offer them obeisance with humility. Then they will bless you and their power will come to you, for you have eagerness to accept. When that power begins working, greed will increase automatically and strength and taste to follow will come. Otherwise how many times do we hear people say, “I have been chanting for so many years but still have no taste for harināma. My mind is restless. I run here and there.”
Why are you bogus! By following a bogus program, and not coming to your proper classes, you have become bogus. How can a teacher help you if you don’t want to learn anything?
Inside Manah-śikṣā, Raghunātha dāsa Gosvāmī told, “Go to the goṣṭha, Vraja-maṇḍala, offer praṇāma and pray at all the pastimes places of Rādhā-Kṛṣṇa.” Then the mañjarīs and Vraja-devīs hearts will melt. What will happen then?
kṛd asau bhāva ucyate
“One ray of the sun of the prema of a rāgātmika parikara, an associate of Rādhā-Kṛṣṇa in Goloka Vṛndāvana, comes down through the guru-paramparā, through his guru and Krsna’s associates, and it is reflected into the sādhaka’s heart. At that time his heart begins to melt with various tastes. At this stage he has so many desires to meet with his iṣṭadeva, to serve his iṣṭadeva, and to have a very intimate relationship with his iṣṭadeva. This stage is called bhava, and as he goes on doing bhajana, suddha-sattva starts to flood his heart completely. From that stage he comes now into the stage of prema.”
How will that mood come? If the Vrajavāsīs’ hearts don’t melt, if their blessings don’t shower upon us, and if they don’t look down upon us, then what will happen? It is impossible to progress without mercy. This treatment is necessary. This medicine, diet, food and lodge are necessary. You must get residential permission and a permanent residence in Vraja; otherwise you will never forget your residential address in māyā.
Therefore, Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura prayed—
vṛṣabhānu-pure, janama loibo, yāvaṭe vivāha ha’be
vraja-gopī-bhāva, hoibe svabhāva, āno bhāva nā rohibe
“I shall take birth in Vṛṣabhānu Mahārāja’s town and will marry in the nearby village of Yāvaṭa. My sole disposition and nature will be that of a vraja-gopī—no other idea will remain.”
This is not speculation. This is pure truth. But where we are now in māyā is false, this is speculation! This is temporary! To attain our permanent address and residence and relationship, we must go to a pāramārthika school. Līlā-śakti gives this chance openly to all, but one must have desire and come apply for admission.
The peacocks come from one side of the forest and wait. Kṛṣṇa has not yet woken up. The sakhīs and mañjarīs come and see that Yaśodā Mātā is very sad and worrying about something deep in thought.
Seeing Śrīmatī, she embraces, takes Her in her lap and sniffs Her head. Then she says, “Go to the kitchen.”
Rādhārānī understands something is worrying Yaśodā.
“What is the trouble?” She asks.
“Gopāla is now tired and resting.”
“Resting? Don’t worry. We have brought wonderful flowers. Simply by smelling them strength comes. Also, we have a honey elixir. By drinking this, Kṛṣṇa will become energized. We also brought fresh butter of two types—one is thick and sweet, and the other very light and frothy.”
Yaśodā Mātā says, “His body is scratched from the forest.”
“Don’t worry,” Śrīmatī says, “We have a herbal ointment that will relieve Him.”
Yaśodā Mātā becomes very happy, and says, “Yes, please help my lālā.”
The gopīs go inside Kṛṣṇa’s room and then some massage His feet, some give Him drinks and so forth. Kṛṣṇa wakes and sits up, rubbing His eyes.
In the early morning, after maṅgala-āratī, the rule is to give Ṭhākurajī butter, sugar candy, laddus and some other bhoga.
On one side, the sādhaka is present in his service, following the nine-fold limbs of devotion in his physical body, while internally he engages in serving the eternal pastimes of Rādhā-Kṛṣṇa.
sevā sādhaka-rūpeṇa siddha-rupeṇa cātra hi
tad bhāva lipsunā kāryā vraja lokānusārataḥ
Bhakti-rasāmṛta-sindhu, Eastern Division
“One who has intense longing to attain rāgātmikā-bhakti follows in the footsteps of the Vrajavāsīs [such as Rūpa Gosvāmī] who are devoted to rāga-mārga. With his external body (sādhaka-rūpa) he should chant and hear according to the practice of rāgānuga-bhakti, and with his internally contemplated body (siddha-rūpa) bestowed upon him by his guru, he should perform service.”
The rāgānugā-sādhaka performs maṅgala-āratī of Rādhā-Kṛṣṇa in his external form as a practitioner, while within, he is present in the pastimes of Rādhā-Kṛṣṇa serving there. Both will happen at the same time. This is real consciousness. On one side, you are doing everything automatically without any difficulty, and on the other side, you are present in Vraja-maṇḍala. This is not possible in any other planet or place. The mind is always moving while the body acts. But this mind must be trained to move in the spiritual sky. If you move in any other sky, you will attain nothing.
Our sādhana is krameṇa rasanā manasī niyojya. This is sādhana. The mind, speech and body should all be equal, following the same path. On one side, perform ārati and take darśana of the Deities, and at the same time your mind should be in Vraja, near Rādhā-Kṛṣṇa. What to do there? If you have no other qualities, then sweep the pathways of Vraja and offer praṇāma. This is enough. Then gradually energy and taste will come.
Automatically inspiration will come regarding what service to do. And you will become very greedy for more and more service.
This is the philosophy of our gauḍīya-paramparā.
Śrīmatī enters Kṛṣṇa’s room with the sakhīs. Kṛṣṇa jokes with the gopīs, smiling and laughing. Hearing the sound, Yaśodā Mātā comes into the room and becomes very happy to see her lālā well.
Then she tells the gopīs, “When you come in the morning, everyday you should first come see my lālā, for He becomes cheerful by your presence.”
She sees that Kṛṣṇa’s face has flushed red, exuding good health. Then Yaśodā Mātā takes a ghee lamp and performs His ārati while the sakhīs sing. This is the morning ārati performed in Nanda-bhavāna, which fills everyone with happiness. All the birds and animals dance as Govinda slowly gets up and walks outside. On some occasions Kṛṣṇa gets up late, but generally He gives darśana to everyone early and with their eyes the Vrajavāsīs perform His ārati. The gopīs offer different gifts to Kṛṣṇa such as sweet water, soft towels to wipe His face, incense, flower garlands, and perfumes.
Brāhmaṇa boys start reciting the Vedas in the morning, beginning slowly and in a low tone, and then gradually increasing the speed and pitch. In this way, the cuckoos in Vraja sing, ‘coo, coo,’ faster and faster. Yaśodā Mātā then understands. “Everyone has desire to see Kṛṣṇa.” She thinks, “First I will open the gate and see what Kṛṣṇa is doing.” Sometimes she goes inside, and Kṛṣṇa rolls from one side to the other, as if He feels some pain in His body. Yaśodā takes Him in her lap and strokes Him, saying, “Today You should stay at home. Don’t go to the forest. The servants will go today, You should rest.”
Then Kṛṣṇa quickly sits up straight and strong, thinking, “No! This is not possible.” But He doesn’t argue with His mother. He rubs His belly, as if to show, “I am very hungry.” Yaśodā Mātā runs to prepare some breakfast for Her lālā, and in the meantime, Kṛṣṇa disappears out of Nanda-bhavāna and gives all the waiting Vrajavāsīs His darśana. He is also very greedy. Why? He feels, “If they are waiting for Me and I don’t go to meet with them, then they become very unhappy. They have been thirsty for My darśana all night, therefore they are singing now welcoming Me to come out.”
Rādhārānī hears the peacocks and other birds’ singing while Kṛṣṇa is still in the room with Yaśodā. Kṛṣṇa understands the animals’ language and moods. By the darśana of Kṛṣṇa, they want to take Him in their heart where they will serve Him. But Rādhārānī says to the birds and animals, “Hush . . . Don’t worry, just wait a little more, Kṛṣṇa is coming.”
Why? Rādhārānī says, “Kṛṣṇa will come out after His breakfast.” At night, She boiled milk for a long time, adding saffron, and then honey and pasted nuts. Then when the milk was slightly cooled, She added a yogurt starter and left the pot to sit. In the morning, She churned the yogurt and brought out frothy yellow butter that was very fragrant. What is Her desire? She desires, “I shall give this butter to Kṛṣṇa before He goes outside. The Vrajavāsīs’ hearts are more sweet and soft than butter. If He meets with everyone before eating, then He won’t desire to taste anything else.”
How is this meeting tasteful and nectarful! Without going to Vraja-maṇḍala one can never understand this. Eating is not tasteful, sleeping is not tasteful, but the meeting of the Beloved with His loving devotees is the most tasteful thing in existence. Millions of Vrajavāsīs are waiting to meet with Kṛṣṇa.
Śrīmatī Rādhārānī gives the butter She prepared to Kṛṣṇa, and then takes the remnants and distributes it to everyone. How does She give? Is it possible to give everyone one-by-one? As air flows, taking the fragrance of flowers and distributing it to all, Rādhārānī gives Kṛṣṇa’s prasāda to everyone and they blissfully relish this prasāda in their hearts. There is no need of any plate, cup or bowl to take this. This is the power of svarūpa-śakti. Śrīmatī Rādhārānī is like a spiritual power house. She distributes Kṛṣṇa’s prasāda, and everyone becomes completely satisfied and enlivened from His prasādam.
Rādhā and Kṛṣṇa both give darśana in the morning to the Vrajavāsīs. Rādhārānī is on one side and Kṛṣṇa is on the other. First the Vrajavāsīs see Rādhārānī as She comes from Yāvaṭa to Nandagrāma.
Śuka and Sārī sweetly speak together in the morning. They go from Rādhārānī’s side to Kṛṣṇa. They go near Kṛṣṇa and address Him, “Hey Gokula-pate, hey Rasa-sāgara, tumhārī jaya ho! All glories to You, Gokula-nandana, Vrajendra-nandana.”
The guru-varga sing—
vibhāvarī śeṣa, āloka-praveśa,
nidrā chāḍi’ uṭho jīva
bolo hari hari, mukunda murāri,
rāma kṛṣṇa hayagrīva
“Night is over; the light of dawn is coming – Arise, O soul, give up your sleep! Chant the names of Hari! Mukunda! Murāri! Rāma! Kṛṣṇa! and Hayagrīva!”
Śuka and Sārī both start singing Rādhā-Kṛṣṇa’s glories. Following behind them, all the animals, birds, sakhīs, mañjarīs, sakhās and all Vrajavāsīs start kīrtana.
What is the process of bhakti? Kṛṣṇotkīrtana-gāna-nartana-parau premāmṛtāmbho-nidhī. Kṛṣṇa-kīrtana. Glorify Kṛṣṇa, gāṇa, sing about Him, and nartana, dance ecstatically filled up with divine love.
In Vraja, everyone starts this kṛṣṇa-kīrtana, singing and dancing in Nandagrāma. How is the vision of that realm? How is that peaceful and sweet? How can that be expressed? If you don’t see that wonderful scene, you will never understand the beauty. The language of this world can only give some slight indication.
Sometimes on the bank of Govardhana, and sometimes at Mānasi Gaṅgā, or other places this program is going on. At the same time, Kṛṣṇa is present for maṅgala-āratī in Nandagrāma, as well as in all the kuñja kuṭīras of Vraja. Any place Śrīmatī Rādhārānī and Her sakhīs and mañjarīs arrange for Kṛṣṇa, He is present there, and this kīrtana runs on.
When does Kṛṣṇa leave His bed? At predawn, while the moon is still in the sky and the light of the sun just begins to peek over the horizon, the sakhīs and mañjarīs embrace Kṛṣṇa in their hearts and say, “You have given us darśana and now it is necessary to close the gate and door.” The actual meaning is, “I will take You in my heart and close the door. Then inside my heart I shall serve You. I will not allow You to leave.”
Therefore the door is now closed. All the gopīs watch Kṛṣṇa with their eyes and put Him in their heart. Then they close their eyes, like shutting the door to play with Him alone inside.
They challenge, “How will You escape us now Kṛṣṇa? We have taken You in our hearts.”
. . .
Now they say, “He Nātha, Priyatama, come with us to the Yamunā.” Why? They will play and swim in the Yamunā. Yamunā-devī is waiting. She cannot come out and play with Kṛṣṇa in the kuñja. Therefore Yamunā-devī desires, “Please come inside my water.”
Kṛṣṇa goes in the Yamunā before the sun rises. Why? Yamunā is the daughter of the sun. If the sun has risen and looked out upon the world, and sees Kṛṣṇa playing with Yamunā-devī, the sun’s daughter Yamunā will be very shy. How can a daughter play with her beloved in front of her parent?
The gopīs pray to Kṛṣṇa, “Come with us into the Yamunā. If we tarry too long, then Yamunā-devī will not be able to meet with You. She is waiting for You. Come now before the sun rises. Also, Yamunā-devī’s brother Yamarāja wakes a little later than the sun. So now is a very good time. No one is watching. Let’s go to the Yamunā.”
In one area of the Yamunā, the sakhās frolic in the water, while in another area, the sakhīs and mañjarīs swim and play. The sakhās pick lotus buds in the river. Now the lotuses are sleeping like buds, but a little later they will blossom. Then honeybees and bumblebees will make the lotuses their remnants, tasting the honey within. Therefore the sakhās pick them while they are still sleeping buds. Then they take lotuses in bundles to the sakhīs and mañjarīs, who make garlands. Oh! How is this sweet?
For a long time they bathe in the Yamunā before the sun rises. Then come out and continue their pastimes. This is called morning arcana. Arcana is not dry. If the pūjārī has no bhāva, no loving mood, no interest, and only reads verses out loud and rings a bell, saying, “Tubhyam namah, etam satam namah, etat pādyam, arghyam, idam ācamaniyam.” This is like turning on the tape recorder. If the mind is anywhere else, or thinking of something else, then this is not arcana.
Krameṇa rasanā manasī niyojya—engage the mind in Kṛṣṇa’s service. Otherwise everything one does, even if seemingly doing so much, will only be karma. This may be pious work. It is not bad, but work it will remain, bestowing fruitive results. This is not bhajana. This is only extra and external.

One sakhī addresses Śrīmatī, “Today You appear very tired. Quickly get up! Wake up! Kṛṣṇa is in the Yamunā. The mañjarīs have already left. Did you not see Him leave?”
Therefore what did Śrīla Bhaktivedānta Svāmī Mahārāja do in ISKCON? He woke in the early morning before maṅgala-āratī, and went room to room, banging on all the doors to wake up the devotees, shouting, “Wake up and take a bath, and then come for maṅgala-āratī.” They have no taste and don’t know anything. They are people brand new to bhakti. But by forcefully giving this energy and taste, they would come and attend the spiritual program, unaware of the changes happening within. This is the symptom of exalted Vaiṣṇavas. They are parā duḥkha duḥkhī, sad at the suffering of others.
If this powerdoesn’t come, then one will remain tired. Then sleep disturbs one. If that power, that energy comes, then one will never be tired. One will never embrace his bed to sleep more in a hopeless condition. The body is also one bed. I have this bodily bed, while I, the soul, am sleeping within. The guru-varga have come to wake us up from our slumber in māyā.
One sakhī says to Śrīmatī, “Friend, are You tired from loving dallies? Wake up. The morning has come. You are honest, chaste and faultless. I know this. From the east, the sun is rising. Are You shy and therefore hiding?”
For example, if a handsome gentleman comes before young girls, they will be embarrassed and hide in their rooms. The sun is a very strong gentleman. When he rises, the mañjarīs and sakhīs hide from him, not wanting to let him see them, not wanting to meet with him. He is parā puruṣa, another man, and the gopīs are very chaste, their hearts solely bound with love to Kṛṣṇa.
One sakhī says, “You are not coming out? Don’t worry. I will instruct the sun to wait, saying, ‘first we will see Kṛṣṇa and serve Him, then you can come out.’”
The sakhī says, “Why are you unhappy? Candrāvalī or her spies must have seen and disturbed You. Therefore You are hiding in distress. O lotus-eyed one, the night is over. The sun is quickly coming along on his way.”
The sun has desire for Rādhārānī’s darśana. For the complete night he has suffered. He closes His eyes and sleeps. Now he has no strength. Without Rādhārānī’s darśana, who is his Guru, svarūpa-śakti, the sun becomes hopeless and weak.
Before the sun rises, small leaves are happy on trees. But when the sun rises, they cannot tolerate it. They are afraid of him and wilt as if dying. But when there is no sun, they are very happy. This is like the young mañjarīs and kiśorīs. They cannot tolerate anything harsh and strong. If anyone looks at them harshly, or chastises or tells something to them strongly, they cannot tolerate this. They are very soft. But the sun is very hard. This is like if anyone has desire to do bhajana and has come to the holy dhāma for this purpose, many materially minded people will begin to insult them without any cause.

In Nanda-bhavāna, the breakfast cooking is complete. Nanda Bābā is waiting, “When will Kṛṣṇa and Baladeva come and take breakfast?”
Everyone comes and sits in rows to take prasādam. The sakhās have deep anurāga for Kṛṣṇa. While sitting in line, they glorify Kṛṣṇa and Nanda Mahārāja. “O Acyuta, Śyāmānanda, Vrajānanda, Rasikānanda, Your dynasty is composed solely of ānanda. Your father is Nanda and You have come in this ānanda dynasty.”
These pastimes protect us. We offer obeisance to these pastimes. This is only a fraction of Kṛṣṇa’s morning pastimes, merely a small hint. This is not everything. If you are there, this ocean of rasa is unlimited, how much can you drink? You will be like a small ant. First an ant goes near a big honey pot and smells the honey from outside, thinking, “How can I drink so much honey? I will invite my clan.” Then many thousands and thousands of ants come. But by drinking and drinking the massive pot of honey, it will never be finished. This ocean of līlā-rasa is unlimited.

The sakhās sing very sweetly, “He Govinda, indeed, You are glorious. How is this Vraja-maṇḍala? Today the cows eat grass in one place, but tomorrow we go back to that place and see that the grass is even more happily flourishing.”
If you cut grass in this world, or if animals graze a plot of land, that area becomes depleted. But wherever Kṛṣṇa walks with the cows, the grass becomes more healthy and happy. It gets new life and youth.
Like if a boy kisses a girl, or a girl kisses a boy, and even if they bite and cut each other and feel great pain, this gives them immense pleasure, and the next day they will bite and cut each other even more happily. The girl feels, “Oh! I want him to embrace me more strongly.” The grass and trees in Vraja have this condition.
When Kṛṣṇa walks on the grass, and the cows graze, the grasses’ joy cannot be expressed.
The sakhās say, “Kṛṣṇa, look at the grass! How are they? They are very happy and green, young and fresh.”
Kṛṣṇa says, “Yes, the grass serves with its body and senses, therefore their senses are very strong.”
If anyone offers himself in Kṛṣṇa’s service, he will never be sad, mad, crazy, poor and will never suffer. All blessings, strength and taste will come. Even in old age, even on the last day, when the devotees are leaving their body, they will not become hopeless.
The sakhās sing Kṛṣṇa’s glories, “Kṛṣṇa, You are glorious. Just see the trees? They are not old. They have given mangoes and fruits throughout their lives but are still very happy and fresh. Look at the honeybees? They collect so much honey which is all stolen by monkeys, who bring it to You.”
The monkeys bring honey and give it to Kṛṣṇa. Sometimes they smear honey all over Kṛṣṇa’s face. Then how does Kṛṣṇa feel? There are so many pastimes. How can I explain this? The ocean of līlā-rasa is unlimited.
Kṛṣṇa is going to graze the cows. Kṛṣṇa thinks, “I will not go to this area today. We went here yesterday. We will come back after two weeks.”
“No, Kṛṣṇa,” the sakhās say, “This is not any problem.”
Like everyday someone comes to class, kīrtana, cooks prasāda, takes prasāda and works more and more without feeling any trouble. Like in the time of Vraja-maṇḍala Parikramā, Navadvīpa-dhāma Parikramā and other big festivals, no one feels tired and hopeless. They need more and more. And every year, every moment, they desire the bliss of these bhakti festivals.
In this world, if one is involved in any even small program with the guru-varga, how tasteful is this! If we go to the eternal world, how much more sweet must it be? Then one can understand the sweetness of this go-carana-līlā.

Kṛṣṇa is going on go-carana. On both sides of the road the mothers go to meet with Kṛṣṇa. The kiśorīs and mañjarīs want to go for Kṛṣṇa’s darśana as well. But the mothers stop their daughter-in-laws, saying, “You are too young, stay in the house. Many cows, bulls and buffaloes will run past, and the road will be filled up with dust. It is very dangerous, stay in the house.”
First the cows go past, then the calves and other animals. And Kṛṣṇa and the sakhās go behind.
The cows say, “We are guardians, we will go first to clean the road and make sure no obstacles are there.”
“Don’t go!” the mothers tell their daughters-in-law.
“If you see Kṛṣṇa you will become mad.”
“Why do YOU go?”
“I am old, I have no problem.”
“Why do you allow your daughter to go?”
“No problem, but you can’t come.”
The mothers’ own daughters will not listen to their mother even if she orders them not to go. But the mother can instruct her daughter-in-law strongly and she must listen.
Now the time is over, tomorrow we will try to hear further.
