Help of the Most High

Srila Bhakti Rakshak Sridhara Goswami Maharaja: [28-30 Nov 1982]

“At the bottom of your heart this wealth must be there, the sincere feeling that, “I am the most needy (of your grace).” And the devotees will say in the background, “as much as you feel that ‘I am the most helpless’, so much attention of the high is drawn there. But when you will feel, ‘No, there is no need, I have got everything,’ He will withdraw. ‘Oh. No necessity of Mine here.'”

THE NISTHA OF HANUMAN IS VERY FAVORABLE FOR BHAJAN

This niṣṭhā Hanumān has for Rāma is very favorable for bhajana. Gauḍīya-vaiṣṇavas are ekaniṣṭha towards Śrī Rādhā, Kṛṣṇa, and Mahāprabhu, but still they glorify the niṣṭhā of Hanumānji. Once, Garuḍa came to Hanumān and said, “The worshipful Lord is calling you—Śrī Kṛṣṇa wants to see you.” He replied, “My health is not good. I am feeling ill. I cannot go.” Garuḍa repeated, “Kṛṣṇa is calling you.” Hanumān replied, “I understand, but I am so weak. I cannot even lift my tail.” Then Garuḍa thought he would pick him up and take him by force, but Hanumān hit Garuḍa with his tail and he went flying into the ocean at Dvārakā. Garuḍa then came before Kṛṣṇa who asked if Hanumān had come. Garuḍa’s abhimāna was now broken. He had thought Hanumān was just a weak monkey. Kṛṣṇa, understanding everything, then told Garuḍa, “This time go and tell him that Sītā and Rāma are calling him.”

WHY DID MAHAPRABHU GO TO EAST BENGAL INSTEAD OF VRNDAVAN?

WHERE IS SRIMATI RADHARANI'S LILA-BHUMI?

We should vow to accept only what is favorable for the development of bhakti. We should go wherever there are sādhus; they are our good friends. There is no need for a big gathering; go to any place that is favorable. Where there is kṛṣṇa-guṇa-gāna, nāma-kīrtana, prasādam, and where bhakti’s rules and regulations are being followed—go to that favorable place. We should not go to a big gathering where there are politics. So many things are present there but there is no cultivation of devotion, bhakti-anuśīlana. Many people make a show that they are following bhakti, but this is actually only as a business. Their view, aim, and object is only business—body business, mind business, health business, and pratiṣṭhā, name and fame. They think, “I am Guru; I am Ācārya.” And they insult others. All this is unfavorable, pratikūla. If you need anything, pray to Kṛṣṇa, His associates, and to the Vraja-devīs. Pray to the holy dhāma. The followers of the Vrajavāsīs and Vraja-devīs reside here. Where is Śrīmatī Rādhārānī’s līlā-bhūmi? Where is Girirāja Govardhana? How can we meet with them? Gurau goṣṭhe goṣṭhālayiṣu sujane bhūsura-gaṇe: who is guru? He is always present in Vraja, goṣṭha. He is near the gopas and gopīs. Go and pray to them. Don’t go to anyone else. Have no other relationship. Fix your faith and relation. If you go today here and next day there, then one day it will be favorable and the next day unfavorable. If I run everywhere, then I will lose everything, because I won’t have any fixed relation. Tarry and Tete-a-Tete – Govinda-lilamrta

If anyone properly respects Vaiṣṇava ācāryas, they are very affectionate and become close to one. There is no need to write a paper, saying, "I'm yours, you are mine." Any dog or cat does not sign any paper or deed, saying, “He is my owner.” The owner of the dog doesn't give his dog a mantra. How does the dog stay nearby his guardian? How does the dog follow his guardian's footsteps? In the western countries, do rich men give mantras to the dogs? Do they make the dogs write, "I am your disciple and follower?" The man will give all his property and wealth for the service of his dog because the dog is close to him. Does this love and affection have any value, or is only outward acceptance of a mantra or dīkṣā the most important thing? One thing is pāñcarātrika, according to formality, and one is svārasikī, natural and spontaneous. Where there is natural love and affection, there is no need of a mantra or anything else. Śrī Gaurahari never gave anyone dīkṣā-mantras, but the whole world follows Him. Rūpa and Raghunātha did not give mantra and dīkṣā, but now still everyone follows their footsteps. Why is this? They have eternal love, and anyone who comes near them, respects and offers them obeisances, their love comes to him. When the Sun rises he doesn't give mantra and dīkṣā to the world, but everyone takes the energy from the sun. Then the whole world is the Sun's disciples. Without the Sun no one would have any life. If anyone respects Guru and Vaiṣṇavas, mercy comes from them. When you have respect and love for ordinary people, then some relationship is established, and one becomes close to them. How can one achieve this intimate friendship? There is no need of any payment—respect is enough. Yaśodā Mātā checks on all the services going on in Nanda-bhavana. She goes to the kitchen, and then comes and out looks towards the cowshed. She goes to Kṛṣṇa’s room to see if everything is ready for His bath. She then comes back out and sees many servants carrying in many pots filled with milk.

WHY IS ‘KRSNA-KIRTAN’ THE BEST PROCESS TO FIND KRSNA?

Srila Jiva Goswami states that the Gopis searched everywhere for Krsna but now their mood changed. They thought, “We should sit. His feet are very soft and the sharp stones, thorns and grasses of the forest could cut them. It is like we are chasing Him and He is fleeing from us. He will suffer because of his so we should sit down and do kirtan and Krsna will come to us...”
