Paying Twenty Rupees

-Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saravati Thakura:

“Simply paying twenty rupees does not allow us to hear the Lord’s holy names or a discourse on hari-katha. Such purchased recitations attract people because of the melodious singing and flowery language, but they have nothing to do with devotional service or Vaisnava dharma.

Instead, these recitations are karma-kanda, material enjoyment. A brahmana priest who has been hired for ten rupees cannot serve the Lord. Until we are firmly convinced that service to Lord Krsna and the Vaisnavas is the highest attainment, we cannot benefit.”

Sri Gaura Purnima – 12 March 2017

Mahaprabhu is watching us. He is checking if we are trying to follow His instruction or not. All we have to do is chant harinama and respect Vaisnavas. This is enough to make Mahaprabhu happy. Any Mahā-bhāgavata Should Be Considered As One’s Śikṣā-guru

...But, these devotional practices should be performed under the guidance of any bona fide guru, or a śikṣā-guru. Gurudeva is an uttama-mahā-bhāgavata Vaiṣṇava. Any mahā-bhāgavata should be considered as one’s śikṣā-guru. We should not think that Diksha-guru is most superior while śikṣā-guru in most inferior. We should not be of this mentality. The position of a śikṣā-guru is not minimized anywhere. The scriptures also glorify the position of the śikṣā-guru along with the Diksha-guru...

Mārkaṇḍeya Ṛṣi, Keśava, and Yaśodā’s Śālagrāma

After performing austerities, Mārkaṇḍeya Ṛṣi first had darśana of the Lord’s form as Madana-gopāla, and after that, he had darśana of Śālagrāma. Keśavadeva manifests His svarūpa from the Śālagrāma. Next, Mārkaṇḍeya Ṛṣi saw how the universe, with everything in it, had the shape of a Śālagrāma as well, and from that universe, Jagannātha manifested. When you look closely at the Deity of Lord Jagannātha, you will see how He, also, resembles the form of a Śālagrāma. His eyes resemble Śālagrāmas; His face resembles a Śālagrāma; His entire body resembles a Śālagrāma...

The gopis were not worried that Krsna may be harmed by Kamsa. That is not why they were distressed. They knew that Krsna’s heart was very soft and that as soon as Vasudeva and Devaki saw Krsna they would offer their affection and prayers to Him and not allow Him to ever return. They knew this would come to pass.
