Srila Gurudeva: ISKCON and My Purpose in Coming Here – Kuala Lumpur 1997 Jan 24

Srila Gurudeva: 3rd January……but 28th January we were not seeing any sign of having the visa, so all were worried for this. But I was thinking that if Krsna does not want, if Swamiji does not want to be in Malaysia, then no harm. I should follow the happiness of Krsna. I must follow that. But I was thinking that if anyhow it will be so. That advocate, barrister, had gone to the embassy and he argued there and they are now ready to give a visa and by this order, all began to have [visas]. We all pray to Krsna for the happiness of, and to be merciful to, what’s her name?

[inaudible reply]

Srila Gurudeva: So now I want to hear something, while I am here, how she feels and what I can do here. So I want that you should say something before my classes. No?

[The lady host says something inaudible.]

Brajanath: They are prepared.

Srila Gurudeva: Wait a little and listen attentively.

[A mataji is speaking but it is inaudible]

Brajanath Das: Do you understand?

Srila Gurudeva: I do not. But you should hear.

Brajanath Das: (translates) In your presence we feel so much peace and tranquility. We are so happy to be in your presence and hopefully by the mercy of Krsna, one day, she hopes to become a good person.

Srila Gurudeva: I think she is a good person already, but she should learn how to please God, the Supreme Personality of Godhead Sri Krsna. I know that you’ll be a very chaste devotee. [Indicating to another devotee]. You should stand up because we have come to your place. You can come here or there. You should come and stand up and speak something. [to another devotee] Let him stand here and you should stand there.

Devotee: [after offering invocation prayers] Hare Krsna. [inaudible] We’ve been coming together here for spiritual programs, hearing hari-katha from all our Guru-varga. So many devotees are from different exalted rasik vaisnavas like our beloved Srila Prabhupada, Srila Bhakti-raksak Sridhar Maharaja, Param Gurudeva, Srila Gour Govinda Maharaja, and those who are following our beloved siksa Gurudeva, Srila Bhaktivedanta Narayana Goswami Maharaja.

We went to India and met up with devotees like Prana Kishor Prabhu and Urukrama prabhu (now known as Sripad BV Padmanabha Maharajaa), who are disciples of Srila Bhaktivedanta Swami Maharaja and they have been blessed with the wonderful association of both Srila Bhakti-rakshak Sridhar Maharaja and Srila Bhaktivedanta Narayana Maharaja and by coming in contact with them, we have learned so much more about the bhakti that Caitanya Mahaprabhu stored in Sri Rupa Goswami, and in Srila Prabhupada, and many very exalted preachers like Srila Bhaktisiddanta Saraswati Thakur and what we have actively experienced our beloved Gurudeva. [inaudible]

We have been introduced to the wonderful association of Srila Narayana Maharajaa. I feel I am learning so much, the devotees of Malaysia are becoming so inspired by the wonderful presence of Prana Kishor Prabhu and his family and Urukrama Prabhu who are nicely distributing the nectarean katha that they have heard from Srila Gurudeva, Srila Narayana Goswami Maharaja and that has inspired so many of us to gather here today, to hear this nectarean hari-katha from the lotus lips of our dear beloved Bhaktivedanta Narayana Goswami Maharaja. We hope he will stay here for as long as possible, and we will remember this for a long long time. Vanca kalpa tarubhyas ca…..

Srila Gurudeva: Where is Urukrama Prabhu? He is not here. I am requesting Govinda Bhakta Maharaja to speak something.

Govinda Bhakta Das (now known as Sripad BV Ashram Maharaja): [inaudible 9:00] I’d like to say it is very nice being here in Malaysia, coming from very cold weather. [inaudible 9:19]

Srila Gurudeva: More loudly.

Govinda Bhakta Das: It was also very nice to be here in Malaysia [inaudible 9:30] Even though the weather is I notice that one thing that is missing is the atmosphere. It seems a bit dull, even though there are devotees here speaking hari-katha. [inaudible 10:20]. My diksa guru, Srila Gour Govinda Goswami Maharaja would often quote this verse.

Such devotees are very merciful. They are very dear associates of Lord Krsna. They travel around the world undergoing great inconvenience just to carry the message and mercy of Sri Sri Radha-Krsna.

To people who have turned away from Krsna, who engage in so many materialistic activities—so here in Kuala Lumpur, I am told that it is quite a materialistic metropolis. So Krsna shows His mercy by having His very dear associates come here and shower the mercy of Sri Sri Radha-Krsna. So I feel especially privileged to be here in Kuala Lumpur with Srila Gurudeva. I know that when my diksa guru Srila Gour Govinda Maharaja was on the planet, I missed the opportunity to travel with him and get his association. So after having missed that opportunity, I made a vow, that as far as possible, now with Srila Bhaktivedanta Narayana Maharaja, I will take his association and as he tours the globe, despite so many inconveniences. Just like Srila Prabhupada. He left Vrndavan at such a late age. He was maybe sixty-nine or seventy years of age and went across [the ocean by ship], he had two heart attacks. But still, there was this determination born out of compassion and pure love to come and bring the message of Sri Sri Radha-Krsna, and I see the same thing happening now with Srila Bhaktivedanta Narayana Maharaja. I can only see, that despite all the inconveniences that Srila Gurudeva is going through. Physical inconveniences. In Delhi, he had an operation and despite that he went and did preaching programs, and due to his magnanimity, he came out [inaudible 13:30]. And still he is coming, out of great mercy to give us this hari-katha. So even though Kuala Lumpur is a such a big place, with so many people, but there are only a few of us here, but still I feel so fortunate. I think we should really take full advantage of this sweet hari-katha and in this way come closer and closer to Sri Sri Radha Krsna. Srila Bhaktivedanta Narayana Goswami Maharaja Srila Gurudeva ki jaya!

Srila Gurudeva: I request Brajanath Prabhu, please speak something.

Brajanath Das: (after reciting invocation prayers) I offer my [inaudible 14:50] I don’t feel qualified because I heard some things…[inaudible 15:20] So we have been touring last year in Europe and America, I can tell actually that many devotees have become rejuvenated in their spiritual lives. When we went on that first tour and in the association of Srila Narayana in Vrindavan for one year, I so many times observed the potency which is present in the association of Srila Narayana Maharaja is his deep desire to help the devotees. He is always ready to help devotees. Anyone who asks for his help, he is ready to give it. He does not want anything in return, only our hearts. If we cannot give our heart to Maharaja, he will not help us to become qualified to render service to Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu and Sri Radha-Krsna.

Now what I have observed is that the desire of Srila Maharaja is to help us become qualified to go on in our Krsna consciousness in its next stages, not to just stay in one stage, thinking we are devotees, we are chanting Hare Krsna, we know something about bhakti and we can preach to others, distribute books, do programs and this will be what we continue to do for the rest of our lives and we do not need association from more advanced devotees, because we ourselves having already some understanding of the philosophy. But my experience has been that after associating somewhat in the association of Vaisnavas, for fourteen or fifteen years, I came in touch with the waterfall sanga of the Gaudiya Matha in Mathura. I realized that I didn’t know anything about spiritual life, particularly, what is sadhana and what is bhajan. I had very little understanding, but in the presence of this wonderful association of the devotees there [inaudible 18:20]. I could observe that this is a great need for all the devotees who have been practicing for so many years, to go deeper into their spiritual practices, and that we try to understand what is it that our acaryas have been guided to come and bring to us. Why did Srila Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada come to west? Why? Because of the desire of all our previous acaryas to give Krsna consciousness to all. Because they wanted to give the wealth of Vrindavan, the wealth of the residents of Vraj.

Why did Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu come to this world? To experience Himself the moods of Srimati Radhika and to distribute that wonderful thing which is available for all living entities — the mood of the inhabitants of Vraja. To give sprinkles to all conditioned souls, so that they can become attracted to also become residents of Vrindavan, Vraja Bhumi. This is why Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu came to this world. This is why all our acaryas have put out so much energy to reach us living entities, who are [inaudible 20:00]. This is their great mercy that we can be here today, with such a wonderful resident of Vrindavan. Srila Bhaktivedenta Narayana Goswami Maharaja. So, we are very very fortunate. I in particular have observed, that many of us I’m sure agree with me that when the message of Krsna consciousness came to the western countries, Srila Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada was so much desirous that his followers become qualified. Not so much that he reach big numbers of devotees in the temple or that we are so much eager to distribute many books, but rather that those who have taken to the practice of Krsna consciousness become qualified and fixed up and desirous to always go forward in our spiritual practices. This is the meaning of sadhu sanga; that we desire to understand the real process of sadhana, bhajan, the teachings of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu and why are we given the opportunity to hear from such advanced devotees.

Srila Gurudeva: I request Jadurani, my Syamarani to speak something.

Syamarani dasi: [inaudible 21:45]

Srila Gurudeva: She was with Bhaktivedatna Swami Maharaja. She was so near and dear and she has served Swamiji her whole life. So, now she is also serving me and helping me in so many ways. She is the very famous artist and her art and pictures are in all the books of Swamiji. Now she is also working for me. I am indebted to Syamarani. She should speak something.

Syamarani Dasi: So by the mercy of our Prabhupada, Swami Maharaja, we have heard about 80 tapes of his beautiful bhajans by Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakur, Narottama das Thakur and Locana das Thakur, describing the [22:49] of Caitanya Mahaprabhu and the Vaisnavas, and Sri Gurudeva and also glorifying Srila Gurudeva, and praying to him for his mercy so that we can develop our Krsna consciousness, then surrendering everything. Srila Narayana Maharaja, we can understand his qualities having served these bhajans that Prabhupada gave us and also by Srila Narayana Maharaja’s inspiration, we went further with the books of Bhaktivinod Thakur [23:27] and Prarthana, Prema-bhakti Candrika by Srila Narottama das Thakur. Prabhupada taught us guru, sadhu and sastra are who verify, confirm and establish each other. These prarthanas, there prayers and bhajans reveal the powers of Guru, how to serve the Guru and how to feel humble before the guru.

So Krsna das Prabhu very kindly sang “Gurudeva! bodo krpa kori, gauda vana majhe.” So we can see in this song and in other songs the [24:55] of Srila Narayana Maharaja, Srila Gurudeva are established, that we have no power to chant the holy names of Krsna without the mercy of Srila Gurudeva. Kintu kabe prabhu, jogyata arpibe. O Gurudeva, gave me the order to chant the holy name of Krsna, but oh Prabhu, when will you give me the qualification to be able to chant the holy names in such a way that my consciousness is steady. Citta sthira ha’be, sakala sahibo, ekanta bhajibo hari. So I can do bhajan with undivided attention. Because of impious activities, jada sukha sange, I have become addicted to bad habits, and so because of my own faults and karma, my material body has become an impediment to devotional service. So, all of these siddhantas, all philosophical truths are there in the bhajans. How to feel in relation to Gurudeva are in the bhajans. Tomara carana, you also have [26:48] lotus feet, [26:42] weeping I am praying to your lotus feet, and taking full shelter of your lotus feet. [27:05 inaudible]. So many other bhajans, [27:12 inaudible].

Srila Gurudeva has so much power that he takes away millions and millions of births of past sins, and engages us in Krsna seva… Srila Gurudeva has so much power. So I think it’s only possible by the mercy of Srila Gurudeva. We are so fortunate that we have such powerful personalities… He could be speaking in another language, even if we don’t understand him, the atoms of krsna-prema are emanating from him, all the pastimes of Radha-Krsna are there, [inaudible 30:15] teaching us so many nice bhajans to understand how to develop our relationship with Gurudeva. [30:40 inaudible]. All power of Krsna is present in Vrndavan, which is non-different from Him and all this power is also invested in Srila Gurudeva. So we are very fortunate that we can hear from the lotus mouth of Srila Gurudeva…

Srila Gurudeva: I request one of the senior most disciples of Swamiji, Urukrama Prabhu. He has served his Gurudeva in many ways, and he has so much faith that has inspired him in his Krsna consciousness. I request him to speak something.

Urukrama Das (now known as Sripad BV Padmanabha Maharaja): On this auspicious occasion, we are sitting in the presence of such an exalted rasik maha-bhagavat Vaisnava. To have the opportunity that Srimati Syamarani didi says, that even to be in his presence, that even a few atoms [inaudible 32:50]. This is the fortune of ours. Srila Narayana Maharaja is the most merciful personality who is coming in his old age, putting inconvenience on the physical body to travel in this way through the western world, to execute the order of his guru varga. Only out of his causeless mercy is he coming here. There is no other reason. His desire to give kindness, krpa, karuna, mercy to all fallen jivas. We also know that our beloved Srila Prabhupada, Bhaktivedanta Swami Maharaja, embarked on his journey to the western world, but his mission was somewhat different in one sense. He had to clear the forest, to establish Krsna consciousness. So much dense forest? What was that dense forest? Nirvesesa sunyavadi. So much voidism and impersonalism. He had to somehow or other give a touch of krsna-bhakti to the mlecchas and yavanas of the world. Completely new mood from living like animals, he had to elevate them. So all of this took time, Srila Gurudeva has expressed this many times to us, that this short period of time in the western countries was largely taken up executing this task because bhakti in its highest sense is not something that can be distributed to everyone.

There has to be some adikara, and this adikara is coming from a combination of past sukriti or some kind of samskaras, but since we had no actual samskaras, we had to be given it, and this is the sole product of the mercy of Srila Prabhupada, in the line of Srila Bhaktisiddanta Saraswati Thakur, Srila Bhaktivinod Thakur, and our Goswamis, Visvanatha Cakravarti Thakur. All of great vaisnavas acraryas was given to us by our Srila Prabhupada, but our qualification for taking this and understanding this, what it was that Prabhupada was ultimately giving to us, we could only take so much and go so far. So, [36:31], leaving behind a very great legacy. [36:38] Prabhupada took the antidote to all, whoever can take the medicine, they can lead, but that also implies they have to be [37:10], so in Prabhupada leaving this world, he also saw the necessity to request that further help be given by personalities who were qualified to help us. He requested so heartfully our beloved Srila Narayana Maharaja to kindly help his disciples to go forward in bhakti and we cannot even begin to estimate what a great kindness and mercy this was that Prabhupada asked him to do because at that point, we had a vague idea what that Krsna is the goal. Even some years of bhajan-sadhana, but really what is the goal? What is the ultimate goal? Why have we come to this movement? That took further explanation, elucidation.

So vaisnava sanga, much more vaisnava sanga was desired and Prabhupada came and accepted this and requested such an exalted maha-bhagavat to perform this task. Even Narayana Maharaja has told us that he took this order from Srila Prabhupada, considering him to be his worshipable siksa guru. [inaudible 38:42] “Yes I will lead them.” And he has vowed that he will lead us until his last breath. So how can we estimate how fortunate we are that we have someone [39:07] and that now he is coming even undergoing so much difficulty to continue to give this to everyone. Anyone who wants, he has opened up his warehouse. Srila Narayana Maharaja is an unlimited warehouse of transcendental nectar and ecstasy. He has tasted these highest bhavas of Krsna consciousness, and he is only inviting us continually, “Come! Come! Come on.” He is trying to prepare us, asking us to come to Vrndavan, come on Kartik parikrama. We need more [39:53]. He is continually telling us “Go forward! Go forward! Don’t mind your anarthas. Never mind your disqualifications.” Even tricking us even. Somehow or other begging us. “Come and take this mercy of Srimati Radhika, this mercy of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu.” So somehow we can render some seva to his lotus feet. As long as he is with us, we can somehow or other continue [inaudible 40:58]. Srila Gurudeva ki jaya!

Srila Gurudeva: [after invocation prayers] My English is so bare. I cannot express my ideas fully in English, but I will try. If it will be needed, it can be translated into English by anyone. I am so happy to come here in Malaysia. In our Vraja mandala parikrama last year, so many devotees went on Vraja Mandala Parikrama, and they requested me to come here. Perhaps you know or not know, I met first Bhaktivedanta Swami Maharaja, as you call Prabhupada, in 1937, more than fifty years before. He came to Mathura in his last days, and took sannyasa from our Gurudeva, Srila Bhaktiprajnana Keshava Goswami Maharaja in Mathura. At that time, I was there. I helped Swamiji to take sannyasa. I made the fire sacrifice. I also gave him his danda and his sannyasi cloth and I taught him how to wear it. We were both together for so many months in one place, in Mathura and Vrindavan and [46:10]. When he went to the western countries, especially in New York City, 22nd Avenue, he requested me to send so many mrdangas, kartals, and all the books. So I sent him so many mrdangas, kartals, also Radha-Krsna deities and also a very sweet and tasteful sweet of Mathura. That is called Peda. He was very fond of sweet things.

He wrote more than 150 letters to me while he was preaching and requested me to come to the western countries to help him. But, I replied to him, that “I am serving my Gurudeva, Srila Bhakti Prajnana Keshava Goswami Maharaja. When the appropriate time will come, I will serve you and help you in our Krsna Consciousness preaching in the whole world. In his last moments, maybe you know, or you don’t know, when he was prepared to go his Radha-Krsna conjugal in last day, last night, he called me. I went there. And he began to weep, holding my hands in his hands. He told that, “I have brought so many new devotees.” He also told, I should not say like that but he told, “I have brought so many devotees, like monkeys, in their first stage.” You will have to give something to them and help them always. I told him, “Time to time I will help. I will try to serve and fulfill your order.

He also told me, that his last ceremony, samadhi I should give to him. [inaudible 49:40]. There are many of his godbrothers like Bon Maharaja and all others were there. All of his disciples were there like Tamal Krsna, the senior most, Bhavananda, Brahmananda, Jayapataka, Kirtananada, and all others were there. But I don’t know why he gave this most prominent service to me, because he has some faith on me, more than others. Because his name was Bhaktivedanta Swami Maharaja and my name is also Bhaktivedanta Narayana Maharaja, in this line. We both took sannyasa from the same guru. I honor so much Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Goswami Maharaja like my guru of my guru, my param guru. We are in the same line. So he had some faith in me and that is why he told me to help. I became happy and said I promise that I will try to serve that order. You are my siksa guru. He wanted to make me to sit on his cot, bed, but I touched the bed on my head and sat down [on the floor] next to him, and he told me so many things that I don’t want to tell you because we are bosom friends, he was also my guru, he was my siksa guru also. So, we have so many relations between us. After he went to the conjugal couple in Goloka Vrindavan, I wanted to serve him and to help all his disciples. I did so. Even in the court, with some cases, in Bombay high court I had to go there for several times to give evidence. There were many problems that came, but yet I don’t care for all these things. I want to serve him. All the devotees know this; that I have helped him in his lifetime and also after his lifetime.

I knew that in very little time he has spread the mission of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu in so many countries, about thirty or more countries. Also, in Muslim countries and Christian countries. Christians are like the Indian Sanatana Dharma, they believe in God. They are very near to our Sanatana Dharma. Even in Muslim countries he gave and in very little time he established Krsna Consciousness. He wrote so many authorized books like Srimad Bhagavatam explanation, Caitanya Caritamrta explanation. First, he did the explanation of Bhagavad-Gita As-it-Is. He went all over the world in almost no time. I used to tell that, I think that he has been sent by the Divine Yugal Krsna and Radhika or Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu because he is not a sadharan person, an ordinary person. He was a very powerful acarya and that is why this mission spread.

It was not his own mission, but the mission of Caitanya Mahaprabhu, or Rupa Goswami, Sanatana Goswami and all acaryas. I know that he has not done anything new, but in the same line, he has done. At first Rupa Goswami started and Jiva Goswami started. Krsna Consciousness is the name of Visva Vaisnava Raja Sabha. The meaning is the same as ISKCON, International Society of Krsna Consciousness. I think that he was one of the prominent leaders in our disciplic succession. He gave only the things that Srila Rupa Goswami, Caitanya Mahaprabhu and his most priya bhaktas, the intimate associates like Rupa Goswami, Santana Goswami, Raghunatha das Goswami and others. He has not given anything new. He has given the same idea that Caitanya Mahaprabhu came to this world to preach. So, I know that he has the same mission, same object of preaching, but as my previous bhakta speaker, Sri Urukrama Prabhu spoke what reasons I have come; he has expressed fully. So only to give the love and affection for the conjugal couple. This was the mission of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu; to taste how Srimati Radhika tastes Krsna’s rupa and qualities and to preach and bestow the moods of the vrajavasis, especially the most dear of Krsna’s devotees, and how they serve Krsna. He came to sprinkle these things.

What is Krsna-prema? So, in Caitanya-Caritamrta or the books of Srila Rupa Goswami and Jiva Goswami, our mission and object is to receive Krsna-prema. What is Krsna-prema? How the Vrajavasis, his friends, his father and mother and especially his gopis love Krsna. If you are not in the guidance of the gopis and vrajavasis, we cannot receive that kind of Krsna-prema. So Caitanya Mahaprabhu has come to give this because he is so merciful and powerful. Parama Karuna Krsna Rasik Sekhara. Krsna is Rasik Sekhara. He is the enjoyer of all kinds of rasas and secondly he is so merciful. That is why Krsna took this shape and mood of Srimati Radhika and came to this world, to give this prema to the jivas. So, He did it, giving prema to men, women, forests, where there were elephants, tigers, snakes. He gave prema even to dogs and hogs. It was so strange in the life of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu. He ordered all who were His followers, “You should speak about Krsna to whomever you say and tell them to preach Krsna-nama everywhere. So in His lifetime this spread all over India, but not throughout the whole world, but His followers from Rupa Goswami and up to Srila Swami Maharaja and our gurudeva Srila Bhaktiprajnana Keshava Goswami Maharaja, they have tried to spread this all over the world.

So my mission is the same mission as Swamiji. To give this. Why he could not give all of this? He spoke the reason, [referring to Urukrama Das], there was very little time. Most of the time was spent in clearing the jungles of mayavada and materialism. So he told me, and I wanted to fulfill his order. That is why I wanted first to preach in the places where he went and established Krsna Consciousness first, in America, in New York. It is a very sacred place for me. And from there I went to several places in America, England, even Canada and so many places and touched the lotus feet dust of Swamiji there and I was so much inspired that all things should be given to the whole world.

I saw also and I feel in my heart that most senior devotees are somewhat neglected. They have been separated, and they are bound to go out of ISKCON. Some mission of new bhaktas have been derailed. So I wanted to make Krsna consciousness, this ISKCON, so solid that they should not be derailed. So, I wanted to meet them and to start in a new way, that they should come come back to ISKCON and preach where they still have not gone and preached. But they could not understand, and they became opposite [opposed]. I was always helping them. So now I think those who are of a different opinion and say that “Narayana Maharaja is preaching different from Swamiji” is not true, but I think their preaching and speaking is derailed from the line of Swamiji. Everywhere it is written in sastra to try and honor suddha vaisnavas, pure vaisnavas. They think that I am not a suddha Vaisnava? If they think that, then they should do. I agree with them. But if they know that, I have served him in so many ways that they have not done, before ISKCON had taken birth, I was serving. And still in the last days I served him.
At that time he said, “Oh he is one of the most special Vaisnavas in the line of Swamiji.” If anyone is not honoring Vaisnavas. I think you should honor Vaisnavas, otherwise bhakti will go away from there. It is not the proper rules of a Vaisnava. If a guru is not honoring a Vaisnava, then he is not a pure Vaisnava. That guru should be given up.

This has been told in the epics, everywhere. You should not do like this. Honor all the Vaisnavas who are in the line of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu and in the line of Rupa Goswami, Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakur and Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur. Don’t differentiate between the disciples of Srila Bhaktivinod Thakur, Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Goswami Thakur, and the disciples of Srila Bhakitvedanta Swami Maharaja. They should be in one. I was requesting everywhere, don’t criticize, don’t go against bhakti, even if he is not a kanishta Vaisnava, or he is not giving respect to proper Vaisnava like kanistha vaisnava, madhyama vaisnavas, and uttama vaisnavas. We should honor them regarding their qualification. So we should be…So I spoke this in my tour in the western countries. I saw that even the disciples of Srila Gour Govinda Maharaja and others who are preaching the same mission of Swamiji are overlooked. So I should help them. This is my first duty; in the line of Swamiji. Even if I am ill. My health is not properly advising me, yet I decided to come to Malaysia, Australia and Singapore and all other countries. If anyone again invites me and if my health permits, I will try to go there and help them as I can.

My purpose is to give pure krsna-bhakti in the line of Srila Rupa Goswami, Caitanya Mahaprabhu and my Gurudeva Srila Bhakti Prajnana Keshava Goswami Maharaja, Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur, and Srila Bhaktivedanta Swami Maharaja. In the same line. Also to improve their taste in bhakti. Because it may take several births. We cannot achieve that prema-bhakti in one birth. It may not take one birth to be a pure vaisnava, but yet we have to try to know the mission of Caitanya Mahaprabhu, what is pure bhakti, how to achieve it. Srila Bhaktivinod Thakur has propagated this mission very well in very simple words, in Bengali, even in English also. He was the saptam Goswami, after Rupa Sanatana Bhatta Raghunnatha, Sri Jiva Gopal Bhatta das Raghunnatha. So Bhaktivinoda Thakur has given in his Jaiva Dharma, he has written so many books how to achieve bhakti. Swamiji explanations of Gita, Srimad-Bhagavatam or Caitanya Caritamrta, he has given so many things as it has been given by Rupa Goswami, Sanatana Goswami, Srila Krsnadas Kaviraj Goswamis and all others. He has given everything completely in his books, but I think that he has not given everything in his books, because if he was still alive, he would have written so many more books. Krsna-bhakti and Krsna service is so unlimited. Krsna Himself cannot explain all His moods. Caitanya Mahaprabhu could not explain all these things. Rupa Goswami has given everything but still why has Jiva Goswami written so many books? If Jiva Goswami has given everything in his books then why did Bhaktivinoda Thakur, Krsnadas Kaviraj Goswami and Visvannatha Cakravarti Thakur have written? And if they have written everything, why has Swamiji written so many books? And if Swamiji has written everything, then the coming Vaisnavas will also write something. It is endless. It is purna.

Purnam ada purnam idam

It is unlimited. Anything you take from endless unlimited things, the revenue will be unlimited. So, Krsna is unlimited, what we take from Krsna is unlimited, and what remains is unlimited. What Swamiji has written is unlimited, but if anything is written again, it is also….We are not going to make him less, but unfortunately some ISKCON leaders are not understanding. You should not read any books that are not written by Swamiji, but Swamiji has given reference to so many books, Bhakti-rasamrta Sindhu, Ujjvala-nilamani and all others, but they don’t recognize this. [Inaudible 1:12:32]. I am speaking more than one hour? The doctor has told me not to speak so much, but I wanted to speak so many things. I wanted to glorify Swamiji, Bhaktivedanta Swami Maharaja in so many ways. I wanted to glorify Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu, I wanted to glorify all the Guru varga but I am a limited person. My everything is limited so I cannot touch on it. It is late now. Today I am requesting you all that you should try and develop your Krsna consciousness. Try to honor all. Try to honor Srila Bhaktivedanta Swami Maharaja and his pure disciples, like Srila Gour Govinda Maharaja. He was in the exact line of Swami Maharaja. ISKCON could not appreciate him. They could not understand who he was. But I know he was in this line. We are here for seven days. If the committee of Vaisnavas will allow me to do, I will try to serve you all by my words. I am stopping my class now, having so much honor in the lotus feet of my revered Gurudeva Srila Bhakti Prajnana Keshava Goswami Maharaja and Swamiji Srila Bhaktivedanta Swami Maharaja and the guru of both, Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur. Gaura Premanande!

Those who were tatastha, neutral to Radha and Krsna, meaning favourable to both, were happy serving Krsna, but they had became very astonished on seeing Radharani had gone with Krsna and that He had given Her special favour. They meditated on these feet and brought them into their hearts and then developed great eagerness. They began to think; "Who is so dear to the Lord? Who has done such great worship, that the Lord has been controlled by Her? What power does this Gopi have? What worship has She performed? How has She acquired the Lord? What is the process of Her worship? By Her worship She has pleased Him, so how can we do the same? Krsna is Sri Hari, one who steals all sadness. Bhagavan Hari gives all bliss. She has pleased Sri Hari or Sri Narayana.”  It is said, anayārādhito nūnaṁ bhagavān harir īśvaraḥ, they are praying to Bhagavan Sri Hari who is Isvara - the Supreme Controller. They say, “This Gopi has controlled Him with Her love. Not only Narayana, but He is Govinda dayat anyar govinda anyadhraha This Gopi has pleased the Lord so much that She has received the loving relation of Govinda, the Avatari, the root of all incarnations. By Her Aradhana - worship, She has controlled Sri Krsna.” Who was that worshipper? That was Sri Radha. Even though Sukadeva Goswami was hiding Radharani's name and not saying it directly, in this verse he speaks Her name indirectly. When the Gopis find Her footprints and later see Her two footprints disappear, they say anayārādhito nūnaṁ. In this way Srimati Radharani's name is hidden within this verse. Govinda is always present and in all pores of the Gopis bodies, still He is not present before them directly, so they desired to meet with Him. Even though the Lord was present within their hearts and minds and throughout their bodies they thought, "Oh Sri Hari has left with a very dearly beloved of His. She is so powerful and we should take Her shelter." SVAPAKSA GOPIS COULD RECOGNIZE RADHARANI’S FOOTPRINTS Srila Visvanatha Cakravarti Thakura describes that when the Gopis saw the lotus footprints of Vrsabhanu-nandini some, the svapaksa Gopis, understood that they were the footprints of Srimati Radharani. There were many Gopis there, millions of them. Of those, the svapaksa Gopis did not say anything but they were extremely happy knowing that their Srimati Radhika was with Krsna. However they did not disclose it openly. They thought, "Oh how fortunate we are that Sri Radha is with Krsna." Then in their minds the svapaksa Gopis began to worship Srimati Radharani and Krsna.  The meaning of Isvara is He who fulfils the desires of the devotees, and Hari means He who destroys all the sufferings of the devotees. They thought, “Bhagavan Sri Narayana was worshipped by such a personality and by that beloved's worship He was completely controlled. Tan no bhihaya, we are so happy that our Isvari, our Srimati Radhika, is now being worshiped by Krsna.” radha iti radha What is Radha? Radha means love. She has so much love or radha that there is no limit. Sukadeva Goswami explains by Her love the Lord Himself was controlled.  Sukadeva Goswami says, “Look, who is the greatest worshiper?” It is that person who has the most love, and that is Srimati Radhika. Her name itself means love. So Sukadeva Goswami manifested Her name in a hidden way. The gopis gave up all their pride and deferred to Srimati Radhika. They saw that Syamasundara was now under Her dominion. The Lord has sri, meaning six kinds of opulence or bhaga. He has all beauty, strength, wealth, knowledge, fame and renunciation. When the Gopis saw the symbols on Radharani’s feet, they became absorbed in them. They also meditated on Sri Krsna's symbols. They meditated on the umbrella, the barley corn, the goad, the disc, the conch, the lotus, the flag, the flower and so forth.  SYMBOLS ON RADHA AND KRSNA’S FEET Radharani has nineteen symbols on Her feet. Seeing these lotus feet the gopis meditated on Her footprints and the symbols on Her feet and worshiped them. On Her left foot there is the sankha conch, the club, the bedi raised platform, the kunda, the devi-murti, the parvat hill, the chariot and matsya the fish. There are eleven symbols on the right foot and eight symbols on the left foot. The form of Bahiranga-sakti Mahamaya - the external potency of the Lord - is a symbol on Srimati Radhika's left foot. Her asana - seat - is also there.  By meditating on these lotus feet and taking shelter of them, all transcendental qualities will manifest within our heart. If these qualities do not come within us then how will we perform worship? How will we perform our sadhana? We need some special qualification to do real Aradhana, which is to worship with love. We need some strength or ability. Where will that come from? Therefore it is shown how Radharani worshiped Sri Krsna and achieved the greatest fortune.  Krsna went away alone with Radharani, leaving all the other Gopis aside. The Gopis began to praise Sri Radha and glorify Her. They meditated on Her footprints, in other words they took a vow to take shelter of Her.  Some Gopis said, "Oh sakhi, by His lotus feet Bhagavan Krsna has touched this Vraja dhama and the dhama has become glorious and so fortunate. Brahma, Sankara, Laksmi and so forth all desire the shelter of this dhama and they take this dust on their heads. Brahma, Siva and the other demigods all saw no other means of good fortune. They thought, 'Oh we shall take the dust of the feet of the Lord and apply it on our bodies.'” KRSNA WORSHIPS RADHIKA’S FEET What does the Lord do? Lord Govinda takes the dust of Srimati Radhika and the gopis and worships that dust. They also have this Holi festival. At the time of the Holi festival, before Holi starts, Krsna goes and takes the dust of Srimati Radhika's feet. Before Holi there are nine days. In those nine days Krsna arrives in Varshana and once arriving there He worships Srimati Radhika. On naumi, the ninth day, He meditates on Her and takes different powders like kumkum, itdra, parag, fragrant flower pollens, keshar, saffron powder, sandal powder and prays for the chance to apply them on Her feet and take the dust from Her feet. He says; “If one desires happiness, peace and all good qualities in their life then certainly they must worship this Goddess.” Purnamasi Devi had told Him this. Purnamasi said; “This is Holi. If you want to follow Holi then this is the real Holi.” Over the course of time this real tradition was gradually lost and now when people do Holi you can not find Radharani and Krsna anywhere. These days people go to their elders or parents and offer flower pollen or kumkum to their feet and offer pranams to them and take that dust on their head. Krsna took these things and worhipped Radharani's feet. Even in Dwaraka Krsna had a fever and so prayed to Narada to receive the dust of the Vraja-basis feet. He applied that dust all over His body. Krsna said; "I will always worship this dust." Caitanya Mahaprabhu said; "If we do not take this gopi-candana or gopi-tilak, the dust of the lotus feet of the Vraja-devis, on our body, then this body will be just like a corpse for worms and one will always suffer in hellish conditions."  There are three kinds of fire, or sufferings, in this world. Fire or sufferings from our own self - our minds, desires, anxieties, then fire from others and nature, and fire from our karma. If we want relief from all these fires then what can we do? Just as Krsna said He had a fever and asked for this dust, in the same way we are burning in this world and if we want relief from these fires of suffering, then we must take the dust of the lotus feet of the gopis and apply that dust on our bodies. When Caitanya Mahaprabhu's students were coming to school He saw some of them without tilak. He said; "I will not teach you like this. If you are not wearing tilak it means you have not done your gayatri. You have not applied this tilak on your body so I will not teach you. You must go back and do this first." When the Gopis saw the footprints of Srimati Radhika, then their desire increased for Her shelter, and they knew that through this they could then have the mercy of Krsna. They thought, "Oh not only has this Gopi worshiped Krsna, Krsna Himself has worshiped Her. That Isvara, the Supreme Lord of all Lords, He Himself has worshiped this Gopi (Sri Radha)." That is the real meaning, that Krsna worshiped Srimati Radhika and the gopis saw this. Siva Thakur told Parvati listen: ārādhanānāṁ sarveṣāṁ viṣṇor ārādhanaṁ param, tasmāt parataraṁ devi tadīyānāṁ samarcanam,  (Padma Purāṇa, CC Madhya 11.31, Laghu-bhāgavatāmṛta 2.4) Worship of Visnu is considered the greatest kind of worship of all Gods as He is the greatest of all Gods. But even greater than the worship of Visnu, is the worship of His beloveds who are considered tadiya, or very dear to Him. There is tadiya and madiya, or those who are His, and those who consider Him to be theirs. That is Srimati Radhika and Her worship is the greatest of all. TRUE OBSERVENCE OF HOLI LILA For one day only Krsna worshiped Srimati Radhika's lotus feet and took the dust from Her feet and performed the Holi Lila. The Holi Lila in Vraja goes on for one month at least. Krsna Himself teaches everyone to take the shelter of Srimati Radhika in this way.  Some people take cow dung, dirt or bricks and throw these things, but those who are intelligent and want to understand and properly follow Holi, then they will worship Srimati Radhika's lotus feet and take the dust of those lotus feet and apply it on their head, that is true Holi.  Before Holi we offer a dipa - ghee lamp. Why? Because Holi is also the aunt of Prahlada Maharaja. She was a demoness and her brother told her to kill Prahlada because she had a boon, through her austerities, that she could not be burnt by fire. She took Prahlada on her lap and went inside a temple of sandal. She told them to light the temple on fire at evening time and Prahlada would burn and she would be fine due to her boon.  She said to Prahlada, "Oh Prahlada, none of the demons like you, but I love you so much. Sri Hari comes in the night of purnima and we worship Him at that time, so let us go. Narayana is the Absolute Truth, I am not speaking any lies. Come with me. We can go and worship Visnu together. We will make a sandalwood temple and worship Him there." Prahlada said, "Will you show me Sri Hari? Does He come? Do you know Him?" She said, "Yes let us go. Shall I make a temple for Him?" Prahlada replied, "Yes! Please make a temple and we will go there and worship together." Holika made the temple and told her brother, "Oh Hiranyakasipu, arrange all the soldiers and when I go inside the temple with Prahlada, lock the gate and put lots of wood and ghee on all sides. As soon as I knock on the back of the temple then light everything on fire and Prahlada will certainly burn. You have tried so many ways to kill him and it has not been possible, but this will work." All blessings, boons, sukriti, auspiciousness and good qualities, everything is destroyed if there is malice for someone. None of these things will work if that is there. Holika hated Prahlada Maharaja and did not understand that her boon would not work because of this. She thought she would be safe from the fire.  Prahlada was a very beautiful young boy and she took him in her arms and sat down in the temple. Prahlada was happily chanting the Lord's names. Where the Lord's names are being chanted demons will fall asleep. Where there is harikatha going on then demonic people will immediately start to fall asleep and snore. This is the first symptom of a demon or a raksasa. Holika began to fall asleep as Prahlada chanted. Her head began to nod falling forwards and backwards. Then she fell backwards and her head hit the wood. She was a big demon so when her head hit the wood it made a loud knocking sound and the soldiers thought this was her indication to now light the fire.  Hiranyakasipu had told the demons that when the temple burns Hari would try and run out and escape, so when He comes out then they should try and kill Him. The demons set the temple on fire on all sides. It was late at night and they saw all the shadows dancing from the fire. The fire was burning so bright, that when one demon saw another demon, he thought it was Lord Hari running out of the temple. They were so afraid, that they attacked and killed each other. The next morning when Hiranyakasipu came he saw everything was ash. All his soldiers were dead and burnt, along with his sister Holika who was also burnt to ash. But Prahlada was sitting there peacefully chanting. At that time all the demigods arrived there and they took the dust from Prahlada’s feet applying it on their bodies.  This is the origin of one Holi Lila. There are two things here, first His name is Prahlada and second, hladini-sakti means the bliss potency of Srimati Radhika, or the pleasure potency of the Lord. His name contains 'ahlad' which means pleasure. In the prayers of Prahlada Maharaja and Lord Nrsimhadeva we hear the verse: Prahladaāhlāda-dāyine (Nṛsiṁha Purāṇa)  Prahlada is he who gives ahlad - bliss, or hladini to Lord Nrsimhadeva. Nrsimhadeva also gives ananda-sakti to Prahlada. Because of his connection to svarupa-sakti and the fountainhead of svarupa-sakti is Srimati Radhika, then this pastime is also called Holi Lila.  To follow real Holi we also take the dust of the sadhus, and those who are connected to Srimati Radhika, and this is real Holi. Worship the dust of Vraja, and worship the Vraja-devis. By worshiping them and attaining the dust of the feet of the gopis, then all inauspici ousness will be destroyed, all ignorance will be destroyed, all suffering will be destroyed. This happens for that person who takes the dust of Vraja on their head. (CLICK ON THE TITLE TO READ THE COMPLETE ARTICLE)

The Story of Vṛtrāsura
